Weed is worse. Although people often refer to weed as "organic and from the earth", it isn't. Somebody planted that weed that is being smoked.... a drug dealer. Weed also has other drugs added to it by many drug dealers to boost their sales of more expensive and addictive drugs. Also, many alcoholics still contribute and function in society, whereas many addicts do not.

We used to think that pot was less destructive because it was "organic" and from the earth, however, in the past 20 years we've discovered that it has many many harmful effects on the human body, the least of which comes from inhaling and holding the breath! PET scans of the human brain on pot show diminished brain cells in numerous areas, resulting in brain damage. And, although not physically addictive, pot has certainly been known to be psychologically addictive! Alcohol, on the other hand, is insidious in that overuse affects all body organs and the brain. Over time, it too can have a detrimental effect on the liver, kidneys, and brain cells. Alcohol is a depressant, and therefore wreaks havoc with ones psychological well-being as well. Studies have recently shown that a glass or two of red wine daily can help reduce the incidents of heart attack. The problem comes when folks can't just stop at one or two! I'd have to say that alcohol is probably more harmful overall if used in excess.

Alcohol is physically addictive whereas weed is psychological. While marijuana tends to affect the pleasure sensors in the brain alcohol affects blood pressure, mood stability, kidneys, liver function, the lining of the stomach and more. The only "scientific proof" that I have read so far that seems credible is that weed carries much more tar than a cigarette.

Get drunk tonight and then go for a run the next morning
then
Smoke weed tomorrow night and go for a run the next morning.

Then ask yourself which run was the most painful, I think it will be pretty obvious.
