Have you paid off the ring yet? If you have and you don't plan to propose anymore then have the ring re-done so you can wear the jewel. Depending on where you bought it it will have lost a lot of it's value (like a car when you buy it) once you take it out of the store. Sure gold is increasing in cost as time goes by but the jewel itself must be what they said it was (did you get an estimate of the cost from a jeweler for your insurance company?) The insured value is a lot more than the worth of the ring. Say you bought the ring in a mall jewelry store, then what you've paid for is the cost of rent in the mall. Ok, so you want to sell it, well I see people do that on ebay but I'm not really sure if they get scammed or not since there are lots of scams on ebay. I also see people advertise it in the newspaper but I often wonder if then peoples homes get ransacked. So I'd suggest that you re-do the ring for yourself, or just keep it as is and perhaps the right girl will come along and you can give it to her (not telling her about the first situation), or if your Mother is alive and you wish to give her a gift then re-do the ring as a gift for her. But, either way, insure it on your homeowners or apartment insurance.

Ebay mate, i had to do something similar a couple of years ago, my now ex and i were engaged for a year then she just decided out of the blue that she was leaving!! i too was left with an expensive ring that i had no need for and that i couldn't take back, so sold it on ebay. Albeit for far less than i bought it! but still it was the last thing i had left of hers so i was glad when it sold.

One of my old boyfriends (who it turned out was a complete idiot) told me once that you never lose your money in diamonds. Well he was wrong. When my fiance and I broke up I offered the engagement ring back to him and he said he didn't want it. I then went (with his consent) to the various jewellers and they offered me around £40 for it. I remember he bought it for around £700 at the time, I still had the receipt and valuation!! It was bizarre! When I asked why their offer was so low, they said "well we have to make our profit"!!!!
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I sold it on Ebay for around £300 in the end, so do that, especially this time of year will be good, when everyone takes action on things and a lot of people propose at New Year & Valentines. Good luck :)

take it to a jewerly store, ask them to remove the diamond/stone from the setting. Take the setting (the ring without the diamond) to a pawn shop and get $$. Keep the diamond.
If you get engaged again, you can use the diamond with her. If not, you can use it in a piece of jewerly for her or sell it in a few years.

Maybe you can make a friend a good deal someday. Hold on to it. One of your buddies could save some money and you could get a bit more than you could at a jewelry store or pawn shop.

sell it on ebay or go to a few jewellers to see if anyone is interested in it. Do you still have the receipt? how long ago did you buy it? you may be entitled to take it back for a refund.

Well if you take it to a pawn shop you won't get anywhere close to what you paid for it so I say try Ebay.
