I love stop motion animation, i use a regualr video camera and i take stills then play it back by fast forwarding and it gives the effect of the objects moving, now i know theres a quicker and easier way to do this but is the trick in the camera or tha software? is there a "stop motion animation camera"? or do you need a regular video camera with some good software for stop motion? does anyone know?

You could even use just a regular old digital camera-- in fact I'm in the process of making a stop motion claymation film this way. You just need to import the photos you took to video editing software and speed up the transitions between the stills. If this is just for fun I wouldn't suggest blowing a lot of money on a new professional grade camera.

The people at Aardman studio use a digital SLR camera when they made Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Were-rabbit.

But I think the key is in the software itself - how to make stop motion an easier process during post production.

I watched the special features on the Corpse Bride DVD and they were using a Canon EOS 1DS Mark II with Nikon lenses. All the stills were then imported into Apple's Final Cut Pro. There is a great article on the technique they used:

You need a video camera that can take a frame at a time - or 'single shot'. This facility used to be built into many consumer film ciné cameras, but doesn't seem to appear in many modern videocams.
