Being in Iraq at this very moment and being in the US Navy for the last 22 years, l can tell you that MY NAVY is always involved in every conflict or war. Anyone who thinks otherwise, simply put, doesn't know what they are talking about. As stated there are so many SANDSAILORS like myself in Iraq and Afghanistan, that no one from any branch of service would ever say that the NAVY is doing its part! All of the different jobs that we perform with PRIDE has been covered in this thread!

The Navy is very directly involved in current operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan. There are EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) teams, SEAL Teams in both Iraq and Afghanistan, Riverine Squadron in Iraq patrolling the rivers and canals in Iraq. MA's (Master-At-Arms (Military Police) doing individual augmentation for guard and training at the various detainee camps in Afghanistan and Iraq. Hospital Corpsman providing medical support either with USMC units, or at hospitals in the areas. There are also Navy Construction Battalion doing rebuilding projects, So even though the Army and Marines are getting most of the news, Navy is having a big role in what's going on it Iraq. I'm sure some of the Army and Marines that are there, or have been there can attest to the presence of the Navy that they have run into during their tour of duty.

There is the SeaBees doing construction all over the place, the SEALS doing well the stuff that they can never talk about, the Corpsman with all the Marines being their Docs, there is the Suppliers in various locations making sure everything is ordered and delivered, there is the several thousand IA (Individual Augmentees) in various positions all over Iraq and Afghanistan, then there is the ships off shore making sure that nothing happens there. So the US Navy is doing their part.

the Navy is involved in just about every aspect. There are SeaBees on the ground rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan. There are Ships guarding Oil platforms in the Gulf. There are MAs guarding prisoners and walking the streets of Baghdad. There are Doctors and Nurses doing triage.

There are individual Sailors attached to Army and Marine units helping out.

The marines don't swim to the middle east. The navy provides transport and air support.

Sea-based airpower for one, and support of troops on land for another, not to mention movement of most supplies, which come by sea rather than by air.

The Navy is a serious partner in the war.

its not true that the navy provides marines transport to the middle east most marines get flown in. as far as actual participation in the war is concerned, all the Marine corps docs are from the navy, they probably provide the most direct support. while i was there i did work with the navy seals a couple of times. and the navy does provide air support. but as far as the navy in general is concerned they don't have that much direct contact in the war.

Give swimming lessons? Just kidding!! I would assume they are mainly providing air support, and I'm sure the Seabees and Seals are out there with all the other troops, I'm not too sure though.

I know when we first got there and there were no Army hospitals set up inside Iraq, we were flying evac patients out to the USNS Comfort (hospital ship). That was cool.
