Thats very, very normal. He'll start sleeping less as he gets older, then you'll long for the days that he slept longer. :0D

Well at least you know 5 weeks is too young... You don't have to be rude about it though....
Are you feeding the pup multiple times throughout the day? A pup that young goes through his energy supply very quickly and should be fed small meals throughout the day to keep up his energy. Other than that, all puppies sleep a lot, just like a human baby, they need to sleep time to grow, and develop.

This is totally normal. And at 5 weeks he will sleep more than he will in a few weeks time.
Young puppies spend most of their lives eating and sleeping.

I Got my english staffy at 5 weeks too. She slept like a baby does, ALOT. Short bursts of energy then, lights out.
I have so many puppy photos of her, mostly sleeping for the first few weeks.
(too young, yes, happens sometimes, not an ideal situation)
Id enjoy the time out, its going to be full on in a few weeks, hope youve puppy proofed your house, I lost almost every pair of shoes I had when my girl started to grow.
Enjoy that puppy breath....

He's a baby. He knows what his choices are in life. If he wants to play then he plays, if he wants to eat then he eats, when he needs to poop then he poops, when it's time to sleep then he sleeps. Just like a human baby. There's really not that must difference between them. Except with a human it's hands on, with a puppy he just rules his own life.

That is very normal. But cherish it now. My APBT is 9 mos now, and I'm lucky if he takees a nap during the day. He only sleeps at night and is full speed during the day.

When you were a baby, were you not sleeping a lot? Dogs are like babies till 6 month and then become kids, and teenager! Just like human..

It's normal. Puppies expend a lot of energy when they're awake as you already know. They need lots of sleep to recover.

its very normal. puppies get short bursts of energy, and then because they have played for some time, they exhaust themselves and have to sleep. if it wasnt playing but sleeping heaps then that is when you should be worried. puppies are like kids, they want to play, but go so full on that they are absolutely buggered for ages afterwards.

Well....you already know he's too young....pity you don't know how to spell..... But anyway, that said, yes, it is totally normal. Providing he is eating, drinking, and bathrooming normally, there is nothing to be concerned about. He is a baby. Babies have very little endurance.
