Heavy hair falling out can sometimes be an indication of a hormone imbalance such as a thyroid problem. The only way to know for sure is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

I am guessing your are male 'cuz your name is sam and your pic is on default. What you're going through is normal. It happens to almost all men and many women. Male pattern hair loss is caused by genetics. The genes you got from both parents determine when some of your testosterone will start breaking down and forming DHT--which can impair hair growth (although no one knows exactly how).

Rogaine actually helps. It can slow, stop, and even reverse hair loss. But, like other treatments, is best taken early. Since you're a guy, you have the option of taking a pill called Propecia. You might also try dandruff shampoo--yup, I read in Men's Health magazine that the Selenium in dandruff shampoo can slow hair loss 8%-10%. If you've got the $$, you might look into the recent lazer technology that came out in Sweden.

Finally, if you've got the cash, why not consider a hair transplant? It sounds creepy--but in the hands of the right doctor, its good stuff. Ever noticed how men don't lose hair from the sides and back? For some reason, these hairs are immune to DHT. All the doc does is transplant some of that hair on top. Its your hair; its real; it grows.

If its really botherin' you, I suggest you start treating it early. 'Course, it might help you to know that although you might develop thin hair in a spot or two, the hair loss could stop or slow drastically all on its own and not continue for another 20 yrs.

Also--if you smoke, try to quit.

A.P.S.--If it turns out that treatments don't work as well as you'd like, relax. Just run a few more miles a week and start lifting weights. A lot of girls go for that.......

(Although it could be a hormone related thing or a side effect to medication, I really doubt it. Hair loss is really common among men your age. In fact, I have read that even a woman's hair is at its thickest in her late teens. And I'm 23, too....)

Massage aloe Vera gel over the scalp, leave it for about one hour. After this rinse the hair with warm water. It gives excellent results for hair loss if one uses this massage at least 3-4 times a week. Check out
