I take my driver's test on Thursday and if I pass, we're going straight to the car dealerships to buy a car. I have about a thousand dollars to put down, plus the first month's payment. What is the optimum price I should go for so that my payments will be at the most 250 a month. Any other tips for a first time buyer are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My first suggestion would be to shop around and take a good look at quality pre-owned cars. You can probably qualify (with a co-signer) for a car in the price range of 11,000 to 15,000 dollars.

My most recent car purchase was a year-old PT Cruiser in about that price range.

If you can avoid five years of monthly payments that is a good thing to do.

Since this is your first car, I asume you do not have a lot of experience with cars. I think the smart way to buy a car is to do more research before you make a big decision! You can go to http://SearchAutoReviews.com to find car's review, and get more idea about the car you want to buy. It searchs for car reviews on all the top automobile sites from one place.

Hope it is helpful.

go to where you have a bank account

ask a loan executive - what they could offer you
as a first time buyer - for your price range

you will probably get a better financing deal through them

and they will tell you what your limit should be

know that when you drive a new car off the lot -
it devalues by 10% - WHAM!!!!!!

all the best

I would buy a cheap rust bucket for the first year because you are bound to have a few little accidents - just because you have passed your test does not mean you have nothing more to learn about driving.

Get one that is 2 or 3 years old. it is way cheaper and if there were any problems they would have been found by now.
