I want to buy a high quality flat iron and need some recommendations. I hear the above are good but are there any others? I don't want to pay too much.

none of those are good at all, they all are bad for you hair and dont do much. the best hair straightner would be the CHI, SOLIA, FEDU and GHD, hair straightners which alot of celeb hair stylist uses it and even i do,i use the CHI its one of the best one out there, it doesnt damage your hair or leave that burnt smell in your hair. It leaves ur hair silky smooth and shiney and it works soooooo GOOD! im telling you.... you should get one its pretty pricey depends in which one your getting, and you can get it at any hair salon or online....=D

Look for a brand called CHI. They all have ceramic and tourmaline technology. Ceramic heats evenly and has no hot spots. The iron itself has a full ceramic plate to help with frizzies and to get the hair cuticle to lay flat. Cheaper irons only have coating of ceramic and will wear faster. The tourmaline is naturally negative ion charged and helps with shine. They should also have a variable heat setting for different types of hair. CHI's are on the pricey side, starting at around $100 but so well worth it.

I recommend nothing but the Solia. I got mine on Folica.com for $88. Plus it came with a year's warenttee. I've dropped the thing twice and it still works great. (I hear the CHI irons have a short lifespan.)
Anyway, the thing that drew me to the Solia is that it (like the bit-too-expensive Sedu) is made with tourmaline--a kind of stone that is supposed to protect your hair even better than the plates of ceramic irons.
Just, whatever you do--don't use a Conair.
And always remember to use a heat protectant. ^_^
