Hi, My staffie is mostly really well behaved, she is very protective of me most of the time. There is a co-dependency problem....
When my dad, or Bf or friends give me a cuddle, she barks, and barks.
How can I stop this, at this time of year everyone is hugging, and shes NOT happy when people touch me.
(forgot to deal with this at training, I guess it never came up at the time, probably because I didnt hug the trainer..! Any help would be apprieciated.
Cheers

Thanks so much everyone! just wanted to add, a staffy is about 25kg, and built like a big brick so picking her up isnt always possible.
Also shes 4.
I know shes very protective of me, its her issue, i obviously love hugging my dad and bf...
I can relate a little to every answer.
She gets group hugs, she is jealous of my stepkids, they include her in the hug.

Its more a problem of alpha female( im thinking) or protection, she just doesnt like anyone touching me....(more so latley)

Dogs don't react this way to jealousy, and, if she were being protective she would have bitten by now. You might not like my answer, but she is barking because when she sees someone hug you she has learnt that a bark will get her a reward, either by breaking up the hug to tell her she is being bad (attention for her) or, by being patted as reassurance, or picked up and included in the hug for reassurence (attention for her). Her barking at your hugs is simply her demanding to be included. If you don't believe me, give her a treat that will take her a minute to chew up and hug someone while she is chewing, i'll gaurantee she won't even barely notice the hug.
You must ignore her spoilt tantrums, or distract her until she forgets she ever had a problem with it.

Proper training and socialization are some of your dog's most basic needs. Learn how to set a basic foundation before you begin to train your dog https://tr.im/doglessons

At first, dog training can seem pretty overwhelming, especially if this is your first dog. Truth be told, training your dog is a very big project. However, if you take it step by step, you will find the task to be far less daunting.

Your dog is jealous and she wants her mummy for herself.. you have to correct this behaviour. You can always train a dog... at any age... the only thing is that it will take more time. So start slowly and when she starts to bark, tell her "NO" and be very firm. Show her who is the boss. You have the right to do what you want when you want.. I have a labrador puppy and we make him used with my husband that we kiss in front of him, take each other in the arms, etc... even with his own teddy bear.. he is jealous, bark or look at us. But we are consistant and each time he starts to show jealousy, we tell him no and he stops it... then we spend some time with him playing, touching him.. to show he is loved as well. You should punish for bad behaviour and reward for a good one.. the same with an adult dog! Just be consistant and strong. If you have kids one day, this is very important you do it! And in all the cases, don't reward the dog by touching her or taking her in the arm when she is barking.. she will feel confident to do it again! This is wrong to do! Good luck with the training!

Good luck

Keep going to the training classes. Have your boyfriend do ALL the feeding, whilst your still near him so your dog feels comfortable. Let your boyfriend give your dog it's favourite foods such as chicken or something, something really nice. Make your boyfriend walk the dog. Basically just try to bond the two as much as possible

Dog can be trained with the technique of conditioning. By giving the dog a proper training at watching you being hugged by others, it can be conditioned. You may reward the dog at its good conduct on a hugging session.

Normally dogs bark because they're overprotected or they're jealous so to have your dog stop barking all u have you do is gently tap his/her nose wit ur finger. But if u r in a hug just say No!

the dog may be barking because he don't know if the other person is about to hurt you. sometimes dogs just want to protect you, and they do get excited, but maybe he wants to share in a group hug.

Every time she barks lay her on her side and in a firm voice tell her no! She thinks shes the alpha female so you gotta let her know that you are!! Good luck.

dogs are very protective and also sometimes get intensly jealous they want you all to themself, its a common thing and nothing to worry about, ignore the dog because any reaction you give is still a reaction and thats what the dog wants so will keep on barking it goes around in circles
