With the military dependents are not just children but also the spouse. The only time AD members qualify for BAH w/o dependents is if they are single or it is a dual military couple. As soon as you get married, he will automatically qualify for BAH w/dependents. It can take several pay periods for it to go through but it will be backdated to the date you were married.

if you are married your spouse is your dependent so you get dependent rate BAH.....if you and that spouse have 5 kids you get the same amount you did when it was just the 2 of you, the only time you get more money for more dependents is if you go to an area that has COLA which is based on rank and the number of dependents.

YOu will get dependent rate as you are considered a military dependent..it is not limited to just children. Of course, the amoung will be determined by his rank and the location. YOu can find the actual amount online and I always suggest doing so as in some areas, while it may seem like a lot, it can be tough to find housing in your price ranges (especially for lower enlisted).

if you are each AD, you will both get BAH Single. Once you have children, the Senior will get BAH w/D.
If you are NOT AD, then he will qualify for BAH w/D even before you have kids.
