Some people here mentioned the rich give far more than the poor. That's true if you count the dollars but ask yourself this? How much does 1 million dollars REALLY mean to Bill Gates compared to $10 means to a poor person? What would Bill Gates have to sacrifice to give one million dollars? Nothing because he has other billions somewhere else. All his physical needs are taken care of. A poor person, on the other hand, must forgo a meal.

It's not.

It's just more noticeable when the poor give. It's also more noticeable when the super-rich give hugely. The majority of charitable contributions probably come from people in between those two extremes and it goes largely unnoticed.

I think that the poor give because they have been there. The people with more money are under the assumption that the poor are lazy and just want a hand out. They think that it is not up to them to take care of it.This is not true but they do not see it that way.

Possibly because they are not emotionally poor. Some of the most amazing people I have met in my life have been "poor" by society's standards. Living with the bare minimums and doing what they can to help their family and friends, despite their financial circumstances. We should all take notes!

The rich give far more money than the poor. Some of them give incredible amounts. Many moderately well off give large sums as well, that's what keeps churches afloat.
I think your perspective is rather narrow.

I agree with the first answer. Some of the *poor* people give because they can emphatize with someone going thru the same situation because they've been there.l

The poor are infected with what is called guilt. That if they do not do what is asked no one will. This is why the poor remain poor. Rich people do give but not for guilt reasons.

The poor have more to give. Poverty is not a material quality but the nature of the heart or the spirit.
One whose heart does not allow him to part with his substantial material accumulation is actually the poorest of us humans.
