Pray- ask God to reveal himself to you in your everyday life. he speaks to us in the simplest ways but we are so busy we don't hear it or we mistake it as a coincidence. there is no such thing as a coincidence!
Read the bible- people argue that is is fake or man wrote it but it is inspired by God. His words are in there, speaking to you and letting you know what he wants from you.
Be kind to people, treat them as you would like to be treated because you never know when you are in the midst of an angel. Look at a baby's smile, a sunset, light snow falling on xmas eve, listen to birds chirping.........see the beauty around you and know God made this for you. That shows His love.

Sounds trite I know, but Jesus is the way to the Father.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

First be honest to yourself. If you are far away from God you need to repent and he will get closer to you.If you really want to have a true relationship time with God you need to spend quality time with him. Each day you need to spend at least an hour with God by reading his word and in prayer telling him your innermost feelings. If you are going to be persistent in this God will bless you abundantly. If you take one step to God ,God would make two steps. If you take five he will take ten steps to get closer to you.

Through His WORD- the Holy Bible.
Our God is the God of the Bible-- that is why He gave us His word, that is why He gave us JESUS CHRIST! And His written word is what we need to live by- it keeps us grounded in His truth.
Without studying the scriptures, and staying in constant prayer for the Holy Spirit to teach us, we will be lost-- wandering from myth to myth....never being fully rooted in the truth.
Romans 10:17 says "Faith comes from hearing and hearing the word of God"
We have eternal life through Jesus Christ- He is ALIVE! And He is with those who are saved in Him. We have His writtten word to live by- He teaches us through it, and we become closer and close to Him as we seek Him in word and PRAYER and WORSHIP! These three things are crucial to keep a close relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ- to know Him. Many people create their own god- a god to suit themselves. But how do we know who the one true God is? He is the God of the Bible- His word tells us WHO He is. And He is alive forevermore! All praise and glory belong to Him!
Micah 6:8
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
