What Biblical prohibition prevents Baptists from dancing that is apparently overlooked or outrightly ignored by other Christian sects? Similarly, why can Roman Catholics consume alcoholic beverages (e.g., wine) but certain Protestant denominations (e.g., Baptists) can't? Explanations sincerely appreciated!

I went to high school with Southern Baptists who had to "sit out" P.E. class when we studied square dancing because they weren't allowed to dance. I'm aware that some Christian sects apparently frown upon dancing, but despite having read the KJV cover-to-cover I can't figure out why.

It is not a Biblical prohibition. Rather it is a prohibition due to worry and concern. Dancing often inflames the passions and can lead to lust (which is a sin); however, dancing in and of itself is not a sin.
Similarly with wine, the main purpose is to mentally escape - and in doing so, the person cannot love the Lord their God with their mind (as is instructed). However, there is no explicit prohibition of alcohol. Many refuse it because not much good - and much bad - can come from it.

Baptists can drink and dance. There is nothing in the Bible or the book, The Baptist Faith and Message, that would exclude drinking or dancing.
The reason some Baptists exclude drinking and dancing is because they lack self-control. Instead, they lean on external controls to make up for their lack of maturity.
That which lead to Prohibition should have also brought it down.
Col 2:20Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: 21"Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"? 22These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. 23Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
On the other hand, admitting that you need external controls is good. For example, small children need fenced in back yards so they don't wonder into the street and get killed. It is the person that has been in the faith for 20 years and is still a "babe in Christ" that you have to wonder about.

Drunkenness not eating is condemned interior the bible, in certainty the bible author Timothy substitute into recommended through the Apostle Paul to take a splash wine for his widespread abdomen upsets. And definite Jesus first miracle substitute into to coach water into wine. yet this substitute into not a licence to get decrease than the effect of alcohol as a results of fact it is authentic that when human beings drink too plenty they do lose their inhibitions and that they could enable down their shelter and do some thing (and it could not basically be a sexual ingredient it must be to scouse borrow, or wreck the regulation in some incorrect way) that they does not oftentimes do. As for dancing the bible would not condemn dancing, definite it condemns sexual mis habit yet there are various dances that are sparkling and not sexually arousing. case in point many cultural dances like Greek or Assyrian or Persian are captivating dances and not sexual in any respect in nature. additionally our very own consciences could come into play what must be sexually arousing to one individual does not inevitably be so for yet somebody else. even though it is obvious once you notice some dancing that it is fantastically plenty 'intercourse on the dancefloor'. So extremely than condemn those issues outright, people who stick to the bible use their bible knowledgeable ethical experience to % how plenty if any to drink and what sort of dancing they could be prepared to take section in without breaking Gods standards.

I don't think there is an "official" Baptist catechism about what Baptists can and can't do (i.e., Catholics, Presbyterians, etc.)
As far as alcohol--
A lot of Baptists are former alcoholics themselves.
Baptists just choose to focus on those verses that warn against alcohol (but then there are just as more that don't pass judgment on it, and in some cases, even recommend it).
As far as dancing? I don't know. There are actually plenty of Bible passages that encourage people to dance.

David danced for the Lord. Paul told Timothy to drink wine, even Christ drank wine.
The point is not to drink to excess, not to become a drunkard.
I go to a Southern Baptist church and I've never heard of these prohibitions you name.

Im baptist and I dont think dancing is a restriction. Ive never heard that. The bible says drunkeness is a sin. In my opinion, I think you could drink without getting drunk. Whatever feels right to you.
The Drew dosen't know what he is talking about! Baptists teach salvation by faith alone, without works. I think he has baptists confused with catholics.

In most situations these things are carry overs from past issues that were relevent when people of that time chose to abstain from something. eg In Wesleys time there was a problem with cheap gin so they decided not to support the people who were supplying it.

It all has to do with control, if you can't control your parting you might sin, so just don't party.
