Because of the steroids, your Aunt is probably eligible for rehab services and if anyone fits the rehab category, it is she! She had treatment, the treatment affected her health, and now she is entitled to be rehabilitated. Tell her to insist on it from her doctor. The doctor is not allowed to suggest it until the patient demands it, by the lovely insurance companies (or medicaid, if she is uninsured, though in my experience it is easier to get appropriate treatment from Medicaid than from insurance companies) Anyway, it is worth a try!

I have arthritic knees and I got very overweight, though not dangerous like her. I used to walk 5 miles a day outdoors but with my knees it hurts to go down hill or down stairs. I recommend water aerobics and a treadmill. The treadmill makes my knees feel so good! I power along at 3 mph without fear of stepping in a hole or having to change elevation. I start out limping and within 20 minutes the pain is gone and I am walking briskly.
