Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a bleaching agent used in many hair bleaches. Over-the-counter H2O2 is available in a very dilute form (between 3 to 6%) and therefore will bleach hair very gradually. Multiple applications might be needed. If your hair is dark, H2O2 will hardly bleach it at all. Make sure you use it on healthy virgin hair. A strand test is also recommended.

Yes, I have used straight hydrogen peroxide on my hair in the past. I was using it to try and bleach my hair because I wanted to go blonde for a while. Problem is that when I kept doing it it left my hair very dry.

When I was 10 years old I used hydrogen peroxide on my hair and turned a brown red......the key to putting anything on your hair is the timing...20 minutes tops! It is not a bleach nor does it treat.....the professional peroxide used on hair is measured in volume.....hydrogen peroxide is like 0.5% volume where as professional peroxide for hair is 20.0% 30.0% 40.0% 60.0% volume = 20 30 40 60 X's greater (stronger) than hydrogen peroxide. This professional peroxide put straight on the hair will eat the hair till it turns into mush, if left on the hair. I found out the hard way once I learned it lightened my hair I got a bit carried away! My hair came out in clumps.
