But when they change isn't it like being friends with someone else?
Or if we want them to change why did we choose to be friends with them in the first place?

People change , just like you do as years go by, or some thing happen in our lives that makes us change, It is done gradually over time , some time we don't notice the change, either in us or some one we know ,
How about, you had a friend at school days 14 and 15 year old , come at the age of say 25 you expect them to change, act their age, some one gets married , now it's a different ball game, married man or woman have no option but to change their ways, attitudes,
If we don't change to suit the times we will get left behind,
It is in our genes to evolve to change ,

yes they can, I personally have changed in last 10 yrs so very much, my old friends gets a shock when we meet again,

but do you know why, there are two reasons

1. There were things I didn't like about myself and tried very hard to change them and I did, so that comes to say a person can change if they really want to

2. Unwanted change; caused by experiences in life, loosing joy, loosing laughter, loosing trust, that affects the personality
welcome change by experiences; giving you the relaxation of saying I have been there done it would or wouldn't do it again

we should never try to change people accept them the way they are and trust in that if we give them enough love, trust and time, they will change the things we don t like about them anyway...

Yes, I think people can change. Take Britney Spears for example. She didn't change for the better, but the worst, yet it was very easy for her to change. Another example would be Nicole Richie. Ever since she got pregnant, she has changed her ways to being more caring and realize what's important to her life. That's an example of how someone can easily change for the better. Even Scrooge can be an example to that.
Personally, I think it's very easy for someone to change. I don't think it's difficult at all.

A complete change is impossible in a normal person.

The makeup changes but the core stays the same. People sometimes mellow out a little or get bitter a little in time but the character is a solid thing, it bends very slightly.

There are of course some who seem like they change 180 degrees but I believe that is because of a weak character or no character at all. It may also indicate psychological problems.

It is good to see the good in people and to be friends because of this. The not good things in people are good to change and we may find more beauty in our friends when they change for better.

It is like polishing a stone. This is what life does.

I think that people can change some characteristics of their personality but complete changes cannot be done

its a miracle if someone can change a kusur or a habit (regarding his/hers behavior). This is possible but it takes time in normal cases

or the other case is that something extraordinaire happens, something extremely important so the person is persuaded to change and accept another point of view to his life

so, to answer your questions :
*it isnt like being friend with someone else - the only case you can live this kind of situation, is to find ANOTHER friend

**we like them, we need them, we love them, but we may dont accept some little tiny characteristics they have, that make our life difficult -one way or another!!! i.e i love my friend so much but she is not accurate in her appointments etc.

Yes, I believe people can change, either the bad way or the good way!
Scenario 1: Someone looses his job, his house, his family, his dignity ....most likely he will become a criminal
Scenario 2: Someone did something bad and regrets it a lot, he will try everything to do good deeds afterwards

We choose our friends because they remind us of someone and we tend to compare them to this person and that is why we want them to change.

People can get "lustre", while being educated, rising to higher economical levels, dealing with the upper class... etc.etc. These changes are superficial. The core of the human does not change. We can see that, especially when they are under stress where the respond spontaneously and their ...good old self is projected in its full glory.
Oh, sometimes, the do change...... to the worse!

No people never change. So our young, smart and pretty girl cannot turn her wicked but attractive boyfriend into a charitable and upright prince as it often happens in books or movies. Sad to believe that no one can change tho, it drains your hopes.

There's a proverb in Turkish with the same meaning of Dellarovere's quote:

"Can çıkar huy çıkmaz"

means something like, habits/character will stay the same even the person is dead.

It's true in a way,but i think people can change. I saw them changed. But i was disappointed by some people, hoping they will change, giving 2nd or 3rd chances but stays the same. It depends on the person and the people around him/her i guess.

And yes, change is sometimes useful. You may like a person, everything about him but there can be one very irritating habit of him. Wouldn't you want to change it? I would.
