No, not the same thing. Gnostics are an ancient heresy.

I'm not sure what the latest definition of "New Agers" means but people are given the wrong impression of Gnostic from Christianity. Because, there are no surviving Gnostic books, only books against Gnosticism written by Early Christian Church Fathers. That's why everyone thinks that it's bad. Gnostic comes from the Greek word, "gnosis" which means knowledge. Gnostics believed that the material world is evil and soul becomes trapped in it. The soul needs to learn (knowledge) how to escape. That doesn't sound so terrible to me.

Gnosis is an ancient tradition. The term New Ager refers to someone who thinks the New Age (most commonly referred to as the Age of Aquarius) has come or is coming.
