I understand it is somewhat an obligation, but people answer my questions by just dipping their hands into what the Bible offers. The only proof the Bible has as being absolute truth is in the words of the Bible itself and only other Christian interpretations afterwards. Also, why do people--who have also considered themselves atheists--answer questions so sarcastically and not actually think about the question? Are people really this ignorant?

You kind of addressed the problem. It's the fact that people percieve there to be some sort of obligation to treat the words of the Bible as absolute fact and law. It should be read like any other text: analytically.

Their is no documented or scientific proof to any of its claims, and thus it should be read not as a source of information or as a historical account, but rather as a philosophical guide. For the sake of rational thought, it must be assumed that the stories are not true since we have no evidence or proof to the contrary. Instead, these stories should be read for an inner metaphocial meaning. The messages that appear in behind the events of the Bible are the basis of religious thought, not the insignificant and irrelevent details of each individual occurance and account.

The Bible isn't a story book. And if you choose to read it as such, keep in mind that in a library it would be labled as FICTION.

I answer religious questions with Bible answers because I base my faith on the Bible. I do consider it to be the truth. When it comes to religion, people are going to answer according to their belief system.

I am confused though about people who claim Christianity and then deny the accuracy of the only Book that their faith is based on. What other source is there to learn about Christ that is as old as the Bible? I believe the Bible to be accurate because of the prophesies included in it. Yes, it involves interpretation but the Bible will actually translate itself! If there is a word used in prophesy (That is symbolic) and you look up that word all over the Bible, you will eventually find where it actually tells you what that symbol means! This happens a lot between Daniel and Revelations but I have also seen it in Isaiah too.

I personally only use Bible passages when it is called for though. I am not too fond of Religious "Catch Phrases" because for the most part, they have lost their original meaning or have been so overused they have become insulting. I particularly dislike "you are going to hell", "Are you born again?", Have you FOUND Jesus" (didn't know he was lost!) and "you need to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and savior" (What makes these people think I haven't?)

Good point. I personally find the same thing annoying and here's what I think.

Humans, as living beings are so dependat on the environment. Humans depend a lot, lot, lot on their parents in their childhood. In our kidtime, we used to depend on our momma and pappa to do everything for us. They were the 'God' to us. They knew everything. If we followed what they told us, we would be happy, otherwise we'll suffer. We were taught to believe, and have faith blindly, without even having the right to ask why we can't ask anything.

When people like that grow up, they just can't cope with what their kids ask them. They make a 'book' for them to quote from whenevr they need. That book contains everything that the isralist ancestors believed to lead a good life. And to stop people contradicting, they made an image of God. The book is the word of Lord God, which you can NOT question.

A load of s**t! Open your eyes and see around, do you see a god protecting his children? you see hurricanes, made by god. nice gift. tornados, wow. hailstorms, gee! tsunamis, too!
Not to mention every damn disease he's spread all over the earth.

Open your eyes, and see the world.

I would recommend Josh McDowell's "Evidence That Demands a Verdict" written by a former atheist set out to disprove Christianity.

He goes into great detail documenting the historicity, authenticity, and accuracy of Scripture from extrabiblical (outside of the Bible) texts.

I believe that there is a great deal of wisdom and very, very good advice in the Bible.

All a person has to know is where to look.

The main problem with "truth" is that everyone (and I mean everyone) seems to believe that they know the "absolute truth" (aka, the "ultimate truth").

Many times, when I am asked for advice, I *do* seek guidance from the Bible. It's a great "User's Manual" for this life. In matters of faith, it sure seems to be a great reference book.

Why Christians the Bible as absolute truth:
they have been brain-washed to believe that it is. That or they just don't take the initiative to see what other points of view are out there. And if they do, and they talk to one of their "churchie" friends, they'll tell them that the devil put those thoughts in their heads.

Atheists: They just think that all religions are idiotic, so of course they won't take a religious question seriously.

Because it is the absolute truth. The day is coming sooner than you think, when you and everyone else will know the bible is the absolute truth.

The atheists minds are dark and confused. They push the truth about God away from themselves. They worship the creation and not the creator. They claim to be wise and they become utter fools instead.

The more important question is why do believers get so offended at my non-belief? I has the faculty of humor and I will not supress it when answering a question to any topic. Religion has some how garnerd the ability to be handled with kid gloves. The bible should be looked at as a work of fiction, and nothing more.

For a Bible-believer, there is nothing wrong with quoting from the Bible as the absolute truth. This is no different than an Evolutionist quoting from Darwin (or similar) as the absolute truth. I've studied both and science doesn't back either one of them up.

God bless.

If you define truth as the word of god, no need to continue this discussion. You win everything. Congratulations!

If you have the ability to see more than black and white, you are on a good path to enlightenment and continued growth in your life. You will never find the truth, that is, the ultimate question to life, the universe, and everything. However, you can live a happy life and enjoy the time in between birth and death.

True spirituality is finding harmony with one's self. Why would one look to external sources for true happiness and spiritual development?
