I don't feel better. I know I'm in great need of help. I know I am trying to do better.

I would ask you if it is so much that christians think they are better, or if your perception of them is based on bias or resentment, or is an overgeneralization.

I once thought similarly about JWs, but after meeting many, I found them to be humble and more than willing to help others. My own bias was dispelled.

I don't think all religious people think that they are extra special or better than everyone else. Those that do are dumb dumbs. It's stupid to try and impose your beliefs on others. Well, sorry for the lame answer, but I know what you mean. I don't like it when some people think they are so good and holier than thou'.
Oh well, let's just ignore them.

what makes the religious people think they are extra special is the fact that they have found out that Jesus really does love them. what makes them think they are better than everyone else?...I don't know. you'll have to ask someone who really feels like they are better than everyone else. I realize I am no better than any one else. I'm sorry I couldn't help you with that part.

That is also my expreience here on Yahoo answers.

"Religious" people certainly aren't better than anyone else.

As a Christian I believe that we are to love all people just as Christ did. A superior attitude certainly isn't going to convince anyone that Christianity is the truth (this applies to other religions also)

Unfortunately human nature makes us want to be superior to others. This applies to the religious and non-religious alike.

I have seen more damage done to Christianity on YA through the arrogance of people then any good.

Please understand that we are not all like that.

Shalom

Please don't generalize. I am religious but I don't think of myself as better than anyone else, or more special.

But to answer the question, I think it is because most people think their religion is the "right" one, and since they are part of the "right" religion, they are "better" than those who are not in the "right" religion. And a lot of religions also teach that you have to be religious and/or believe in God to go to heaven-- so I think that gives many religious people a sense that they are better because *they* think they are going to heaven and *you* are not if you don't do what their religion teaches.

Some feel they are the 'Chosen Few'. Others just plain have confidence, which can bug some people. Some 'know it all', which is always sad. The are all lacking in humility and the things it can open up.

All the religious people I know (Islam, Christian, JW, Mormon etc.) are actually very humble and dont think that they are special at all. In my experience Atheists tend to look down on religious people, ridiculing and making fun of them. Not all, but many. But thats just my experience. I hope the Atheists on this page will prove me wrong..

If you are referring to born-again Christians, the opposite is true. The only people who get saved are those who know they are the scum of the earth and need a savior. God came to save sinners, not the righteous.
