Nice -- older but nice. As far as no AC the only places with AC in Germany are those with window units (it's not just the American buildings just not something they do).
They are not like posts in the States in that they are kasernes - not everything is in one spot./through one gate/ large land area- it's broken up around town. Ex: Hainerberg Kasrene in Wiesbaden is where one elementary school is, the commisary, some housing; the px and other shopping, etc is in another spot. There is more down the road in another part of town/kaserne,etc. Our commisary in Giessen was off to itself away from the depot (main post if you will), the px (different place), or housing.
Housing can be smaller than what you are used to or the same as most military housing or bigger. Depends on the quarters, whether you live off post, and rank. But most people in the world don't live in as big a houses as we do.
It is a wonderful place to be stationed and we would go back in a heartbeat!

For me it was more what OFF POST was like than what the posts themselves were like. What's the point of going all the way to Germany, only to spend all your time on post?
I was in Wiesbaden, and the post was pretty nice. The city was great.

Being stationed in Germany was soo much nicer than Stateside.
Depends on what base/post you go to.
Our barracks were built for three men to a room but only put in two.
Loved it, German and American holidays off.

I'm sure someone must be, but it's only a little after 2:00 pm. Not much to do in that neck of the woods, I imagine.

the one i knew in germany were pretty small, i am talkin about Schweinfurt "Ledward barracks you can jog around the entire complex in around 10 minutes. Bamberg on the other hand is huge Most of them are older made in the 30's and might not have a/c, they have high ceilings and usually have their on toilet /shower attached to the room

Well, when I was a kid my dad was stationed at one and we all lived there as well. I remember it had everything we needed. We also had to study the language in school and got many chances to visit sites in the country off base.
I had fun and loved every minutes I was there. Too bad more American kids don't get the chance to live in a foreign country
before they become adults.

I've lived over there on four separate occasions. The military posts there really aren't too bad, although the buildings themselves are rather old and show it. If you don't mind that, it's pretty nice to live there.

they are pointless, the nazis have been gone for 50 years and they've already established a stable government.
