BELIEF in god, heaven, hell and reincarnation does not give anyone more purpose in life than one who understands that we are animals on this earth just like sea bass.

However, no christian has the right to proselytize to me about what I should be doing when I do the same good things they do. I simply don't need someone to tell me what is right and what is wrong because I already know.

When we die, we are just plain DEAD. You evangelicals are in a quandary because someone created a question about eternity to control you. You learned about god at the same time you learned about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Too bad you didn't let go of all of the fantasy at the same time as you let go of Santa.

I DON'T CARE about eternity because there is not one shred of evidence that supports anything you say.

OH, and don't tell me about your bible because the only thing that confirms your bible is your bible.

So, ... the purpose of my life is to make the lives of those around me better.

Can you name a greater purpose?

Shows how little you know about Atheists. I don't believe in god. I do know their is reincarnation. I have too many past life memories to know any differently. I don't like the fundie 2 options in life. That's selling your life for nothing. What is your purpose in life> Mine is live my life to the fullest. Not to be dummied down by some ridiculous religion.

Well, I do believe in reincarnation...

Just an aside: The bible says nothing of that sort, I reckon. What it says basically is that somewhere out there, exists a Lord God who knows how to live happily, but doesn't tell us how he got to know it anyway. I hate following instructions blindly.

If I wanna believe, I do it coz I reckon it's worth beleiving.

My purpose? To be happy, content with my life, to feel that my life was worth living. It's coz I know that in the whole universe there's absolutely no one just like me. So I be happy of my life, and that's that.

I'm a buddhist, by the way.

Procreation.

But why do I have to have a supernatural purpose? Do insects have a purpose, and if not, why do I have to have one?

Regardless of that; how is believing in god, heaven, hell, or reincarnation a purpose? Thats not a purpose, its a belief system.

To have a great old time, help other people, and leave the world a little better than when I came into it, if I can.

Also to eat lots of those peppermint Oreo thingies from Trader Joe's and read lots of George R. R. Martin books (I am sensing a theme in my answers tonight).

Are you actually implying that belief in God gives you an actual purpose in life? What, to get into heaven? Criminy, what a waste of effort and time!

My purpose in life is to aim for heaven. I live my life constantly aware that I am a pathetic individual and I was born that way; that the death of a Jew exonerates me from responsibility; that the fear of punishment makes me behave and the promise of eternal happiness caresses my self-important sense of vanity.

Oh, wait, sorry - I'm an atheist...

Seriously, though, my purpose in life is to enjoy it and make the most of it. I beleive that we only have one, so I plan on having fun and hopefully leaving the place better than when I arrived.

My biological purpose (since accomplished) is to perpetuate the species; this is the purpose of any living thing. Humans have the capacity to choose their own purpose; Carl Sagan said "If you want your life to have significance, do something significant." My chosen purpose is to attempt to educate, in this forum and elsewhere, from the considerable store of knowledge that I have acquired over the years, as it is by knowledge alone that the species advances. In R&S, I teach that there is no reason to believe in any sort of god, to do so is provably useless and also a corruption of logical thought, and that religion is a headache which we would all be better without. I'm into existentialism which in one quotation it says,

"Existentialism is about being a saint without God; being your own hero, without all the sanction and support of religion or society."

I'm not the type to bring down anyone's religion in the least I can see how people are scared. I'm just not scared of what's to come. Plus I believe that religion is going to be the downfall of humanity, that it causes more trouble than it is worth. I could go on for days, but I'd hate to offend.

<.< Where in the bible does it give you the purpose for life, it doesn't all it tells you is that God has a plan for you, I don't think it says purpose (old not this newer versions) I think it says plan, so you don't know the purpose of life and you want someone else to tell you nice

You really shouldn't be so judgmental... I'm not. I believe in reincarnation...and the sad truth is that we are here for the sole purpose to have children.
