Me and my buddy will be going to New York on New Years '08, we have never been there before, is it worth it to be in Times square to see the ball? Or should we venture off to another party in the city to save our time and bowels?

The answer to this question is: HELL TO THE NO!

First off, you have to get there real early (like 11am-noon), just so you can get into 1 of the "pens" closest to the building where the ball drops (Intersection of 43rd Street & Broadway/7th Avenue). Once you get in, if you leave you can't come back in period (no ifs, ands or buts). There are no porta potties so you better have a strong bladder and even if you do, there's no guarantee that the rest of the people in the "pen" as you will.

The "pens" are extremely crowded, think of cattle and you're not to far off the mark. NYPD checks all bags as you get in, so beware. You will be there from the time you get in until @ least 1am-2am. The crowds are enormous and the noise is enough to keep your ears ringing for a least a day or 2.

You'd be better off at a club, bar, or someone's home watching it on TV or if you insist, come to Times Square later and you can watch the ball drop on 1 of the "Jumbotron" monitors that NYC sets up outside the perimeter of Times Square for those people "unfortunate" enough not to get "better" viewing spots (note the extreme sarcasm I use).

I would say the latter. I did the ball drop thing once, it was okay, now I can say that I've been, but you will have to pee, and get there very early if you want a good spot. Also it is impossible to leave and come back once the people start packing in around you. It may be worth it if you think you will regret it though.

It depends. Do you enjoy being two of about a million people crammed into a couple of blocks? Can you hold your bladder and not pass out from hunger for five or six hours? Does the thought of people being right up on you weird you out? If the answer to those questions is no, no, and yes in the order asked, go to a party! =)

i'm making plans besides. in my opinion you're able to bypass see the ball drop. It basically happens as quickly as a twelve months. For a social gathering you could in basic terms stay the place you're, you dont ought to bypass to manhattan for a social gathering. despite if it seems to be a unhappiness it is going to be worth it, as a results of fact it substitute into an entire new journey. gazing the ball drop stay has it is con's too: it is freezing, too a lot of human beings bumping, no bathing room, a brilliant number of noise... in any case, do despite you %. good luck!

It is NOT worth it, at all! If you enjoy urine soaked shoes and unfriendly cops, then go, by all means. Otherwise, head down to the village, it'll be ten times more fun, cuz you can imbibe and have a much better time!
