I'm looking for some good books on Wicca. I've looked through a lot of book lists, but most seem to be instruction on how to be a Wiccan. I'm looking for something that is more about what is a Wiccan, the beliefs and philosophies, the history, etc.

Can anyone suggest some books or online information that they used and found helpful when they first became interested in Wicca? Thanks for any help. :)

The only copy I could find locally of "The Triumph of the Moon" was a hardcover version for $230 AUS. I think I'll wait to find a softcover version. :) I did find a copy of Buckland's book though for a reasonable price. Thanks for the suggestions.

The Triumph of the Moon is best for history.

I'm pretty sure you can order from alibris in Australia. If not, you can probably do it through Oxford uni press.

Buckland's Big Blue Book is good for history that Buckland himself experienced. Everything before Gardner, Buckland pretty much gets wrong. Everything else in it is not bad.

There were pretty much 4 books out when I started in Wicca, so no help there.

I like http://wicca.timerift.net
As a UEWwie, I also like http://www.cuew.org but I admit bias there.

Also, Wicca 333, Wicca 404 and Wicca 334 are good books for advanced stuffs. The last is just out in preview editions, but it should be in wide distro next year or so.

I agree with PrarieCrows suggestion. great history and very informative. Some one also mentioned Buckland's Complete Guide to Witchcraft it is one of the first books I read and I strongly recommend it. Also Scott Cunningham's Witchcraft Today is a great reference. "The Triumph of the Moon" by Ronald Hutton is, in my opinion, THE best book for Wiccan and NeoPagan history. He's a professional historian and has the educational background to give a really thorough analysis.

As for websites, this one is very informative and intellectually rigorous:

It also has an excellent book review section which will point you toward other resources.

Try the Handbook for Wiccan Clergy by Kevin Gardner.
It's an excellent resource and it has the theology of the religion.

"The Truth about Witchcraft Today" by Scott Cunningham is a good book talking about Wicca and what it is and is not for someone outside the religion.
