I'm a military spouse (Navy Reserves) whose husband may be transferring to another base in another state. I'm currently starting back to college, trying to wrap up a degree.

If I move to another state, am I eligible for in-state tuition rates due to my military spouse status?

Any information or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

It will vary by the school. Many state schools will allow military residents to claim in state tuition status immediately, while other will require you to meet the same residency guidelines as any other student. You can find out easily by checking the schools website and/or contacting it's admissions office.

Actually, many states offer this. The best thing to do is contact the admissions office of whatever school you're planning on attending and ask them.

My home of record in Texas, I will always have in-state tuition there. University of Phoenix (which has degree programs available that are completely online) offers a signifigant discount to military family members. Attending college on post (at the Education Center) will usually net you some benefits, as well.

It can depend on the state itself, but many are allowing military spouses to get resident rates. California and Hawaii are 2 that I know of. For Hawaii they just need to see a copy of the orders. For California a form needs to be filled out by the command he is at and handed in. I believe Washington State has something similar as well.

When we moved to Illinois, I was allowed in- state tuition. I just had to have proof that my husband was in the military and proof of our new address. Most schools will allow you to pay in state tuition, it really just depends on the school.

not as a Reservist. only AD counts for residency waiver purposes. Besides, not every school offers such a waiver to military or their dependents.

generally no you aren't.

reserves doesn't really count for tution.

Reservisrt are stiol considered civilians

But some states, do give instate tution for reservist, but ive never heard of it for the spouse of reservist.

But we would need to know, what state, to check.

You have to have declared residency in that state for a certain amount of time.
