We all know that sex is dirty, filthy and nasty and that it is best when saved for someone you love.

No, sex itself is not a sin.
Sex with no love, respect or emotional attachment, using the other person as a means rather then end is a sin. Why? Because it is a debasement of the human being. Degrades the body and the spirit.
As long as it is not done in the manner above. Have Fun.
May I suggest some reading if you want to get a real view on what Christianity thinks of sex:
:
Just Love: A framework for Christian Sexual ethics by Margaret Farley (a premeir theologian and ethicist)
Body, Sex, and Pleasure: Reconstructing Christian Sexual Ethics by Christine Gurdoff
And the Papal encyclical Deus Caritas Est, the entire first half is on sexual love between a man and a woman and the glory it posesses.
Song of Songs (also called Song of Solomon ) in the Bible. All sexual allegory, heightened and glorified.

In the context of marriage, sex is not a sin. I believe that sex "was" sacred before because only married couples are supposed to do it. I know, sex is fun and good, but if it wasn't really that good, (let's say procreating is just like mowing the lawn or cleaning the gutters) would you really go through it just to have a child (which will change your whole life)?
Wasn't it in the bible that God says, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it" (Genesis 1:28a)? So, how can we "be fruitful and increase in number" if not for sex? Sad thing is, people look at sex as something dirty and taboo, but in reality, sex is something that should be cherished by MARRIED COUPLES because it is God's gift for them to enjoy and share together (since it is the only thing that truly - and SHOULD - separate married couples from their friends and family).
Now let me ask you these questions?
Why marry when you can readily get sex anywhere nowadays?
Why believe God when commanded that "you shall not commit adultery" (Exodus 20:14, Deuteronomy 5:18)?
Why believe that God gave us this commandments to test us and instill into ourselves the fear of God to prevent us from sinning (Exodus 20:20)? Isn't it because God knows that we are stupid, weak and compulsive?
How about when Paul told the Corinthians that sexual immorality is wrong and we should keep ourselves holy because Jesus Christ bought us with His own life (2 Corinthians 6:12-20), we are not from Corinth, are we supposed to believe that as well?
Sex, my brothers and sisters, is not a sin. It is God's gift to married people. Having sex outside the context of marriage is wrong and is a sin because it's like you're taking "God's wedding gift for married couple" and using it without permission - do we not call that stealing?

No, but arguing with those who think it is, is rather futile. There are many debates that could be had on here, and most of them aren't worth it, because no one's going to listen to one side or the other.
(In all honesty, Christianity has a long history of despising "fleshly" things, a result of some of Paul's teachings and of Neoplatonic dualism. Soul=good, body=bad, kind of thing. But the orthodox teachings of the church have more or less tried to hold the line that since God came in bodily form, he redeemed everything about the body, not just the soul. That was really what was at stake in the tedious anti-gnostic doctrinal disputes. Also keep in mind American Christianity still bears the indelible imprints of our Puritan past, no matter how hard we try to shed it.)
Peace to you.

Sex should only be between a man and woman who are married and love each other. Sex is not a sin within marriage; it is a beautiful, sacred thing because it can create new life and is a way for a married couple to express love to one another.

Yes. Adam and Eve did not have sex until after they had sinned, by eating from the tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil. So, yes sex is a sin.

Only outside the confines of marriage. Ask yourself this. Would God tell you to sin? No. So if sex is a sin, why would he tell Adam and Eve to multiply and replenish the earth. Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
It is not a sin unless you have sex with someone you are not married to.

in all honesty
half of this world (christian or not) end up having sex before marriage anyway. So if it really is considered a sin, then that means that 99.999999% of this world would go to hell? (if it even exists) so sex cant be a sin, since way too many people are fornicators.
