To build your self-esteem, be around people who are positive and who are working toward positive personal growth.
Choose one area of your life, and focus on personal growth in that area. Whether it's physical, social, emotional, etc.
Try to learn a new word each week and use it in conversation.
Try to meet and get to know a new person every 2 weeks.

Do something nice for someone else - be outward focused - in turn people will think nice thoughts about you and you will think better of yourself in their company.

Realize no one person is good at everything. Learn to ask for help / directions when it's needed, but also try to do some new things for yourself.

Keep a journal. Start with what you wish you were confident at. Mark your progress. As you read back what you've written later it will amaze you to see how far you've come.

Share your feelings with a friend or two. Over the months, get together to discuss and encourage with each other. The feedback of what others observe in you can be very affirming.

Take small steps. Each small thing that you accomplish will help you feel better and more confident. Listen to motivational tapes and tv programs. As you start feeling more confident, you can increase the things you do, so that you are having bigger accomplishments. It takes time, be patient with yourself.
