My neighbor told me the other day that she doesn't give her kids christmas presents on Christmas, She does it days even a week early. I have never heard of parents doing that. Of course for other types of holidays But Christmas? I think if you are trying to teach your child about tradition, Wouldn't doing it early defeat the purpose? I don't know it just seems weird to me.

well, she IS teaching her children a tradition, THEIR tradition. for years my father and step-mother celebrated our Christmas after the new year. it didnt make Christmas less special for us, it was just different. she probably has her reasons for doing it early. maybe her work schedule? or family schedules?

Have you asked your neighbour why she has that tradition? Maybe there is a good reason for it. Some people celebrate St Nicholas' day (which is in early December) and give presents on that day. Some people may have specific religeous beliefs that prevent them giving gifts on Christmas Day but they don't want their kids to miss out entirely so they do it early. My father's family is dutch and they always gave gifts on Christmas eve. It seems wierd if it is not your tradition but it must work for them.

I've only heard of it from people who don't celebrate Christmas or don't mark holidays with presents. Like if they were Jewish or Seventh Day Adventist. But to call it an actual "Christmas present" but not on the actual day, hmmmm. Well, to each his own, at least she's not beating them (that we know of).
