Earwax has several important jobs. First, it protects and moisturizes the skin of ear canal, preventing dry, itchy ears. Second, it contains special chemicals that fight off infections that could hurt the skin inside the ear canal. Finally, it acts as a shield between the outside world and the eardrum. When dust, dirt, and other things enter your ear, the earwax traps them so they can't travel any further.

earwax is a yellowish waxy substance secreted in the ear canal of humans..
It assists in cleaning and lubrication .. and it provides protection from bacteria.. fungi and insects.

Earwax is dried mucus mixed with dirt and other atmospheric impurities. Gross isn't it !

It serves as something sticky for germs and viruses to get stuck to before they make it into your ear and give you an infection. But..I'm not sure exactly what it is made up of..
