i understand money isnt everything. its also the way people take care of their kids. they have 3 or 4 kids in a single parent household and they just yell at them and hit them when they dont do what you want them to. if you cant handle it abortion is an option. i understand religious reasons some people cant or wont, but there are advantages to it.

People are selfish. I have no idea why they have kids when they can't afford them. It is 100% unfair to the child. I should ask my sister...she has 5 kids and is constantly looking for handouts. Selfish and irresponsible. If you can't afford birth control...you can't afford a child either.

Money isn't everything. Love is more important. As long as food is being put on the table and they have clothing on their backs the children can live healthy happy lives.

EDIT: Simply because one or both parents don't make a lot of money to buy every little thing, doesn't mean that they are a bad parent and just yell and hit the kids. You are basing your statement on stereotypes.

Yes, some people do abuse the system and are on welfare for a long time and are bad parents, but the vast majority of single parents are really trying to be good parents while making ends meet. I came from a single parent household. My mother did not have a whole lot of money, but that didn't matter to me. She was a GREAT mom. I didn't find it unfair that we didn't have money. I was showered with love from my mother. Some of my friends who had money wished they had my family. Most of the time their parents though they could buy love.

its not like they wake up and say hey.. we;re broke.. why don't we pop out a few kids so we can screw them up??? it's not always planned.. myself and my husband don't have much.. at all.. and then i ended up pregnant ( i know how it happened yes... so don't be a smartass) but abortion isn't always an option.. and i personally wouldn't dream of it... just b/c they are born into a household of low income doesn't mean ****.. as long as they have love that's all they need to have a fine childhood.. i grew up completely broke.. and i turned out fine.. and i have a better sense of money b/c of it.. having a child is a gift from god.. and sometimes that's what people need to encourage them to make something with their life.. yeah the ppl that have 3 and 4 kids and do nothing but yell at them.. you don't see how they are when they are at home.. and if you haven't raised that many kids yourself you should just shut up.. cuz it's not easy.. hell i only have two and i find myself yelling at them from time to time b/c i just can't take the screaming.. but i tell them i didn't mean to and we go on.. and we're a happy family.. i love my kids sooo much.. i wouldn't trade being a mom for the entire world.. every good parent just wants the best for their kids...

granted some ppl do abuse it.. and it's those ppl that give us good parents a bad name.. b/c everyone now thinks if you have that many kids and you don't have the money that they are just using the kids for more money... but not everyone does this.. some of us actually love our kids and enjoy them.. even if we as parents have nothing ... our kids will NEVER NEVER go withour... you shouldn't judge ppl it's just wrong..

Of course it's unfair to the child, but the system is (sadly) set up to cater to people that continue to have more children. For example, those that can't afford health insurance are usually covered with full medical, dental, and eye insurance while pregnant and for a couple months after delivery. While my local Family Planning will provide birth control, it will not help with abortions or tubal ligations. In other words, anyone that honestly doesn't want to have a baby is turned away.

They either dont believe in birth control, they are immature about safe sex or are against abortions. I guess they feel that they will keep on having them without thinking of how expensive a child can really be!! To top it off... they don't mind because the goverment keeps supporting them with welfare, WIC and food stamps. Some people take so much advantage of this help.

Okay... not to sound harsh, but the poorer and less educated someone is the more children they're likely to have... it's a definite statistical trend.

Yes, it is unfair, to the parents and the children. But people are doing the best they can and I'm sure most people love their kids whether they can really afford them or not.

I love it when I get thumbs down for answers based on statistical evidence. People really hate answers that are based in actual academic studies don't they?

Well, that is a loaded question.
Who gets to say what amount of money is needed? Who decides whats rich and poor? Your opinion of poor and mine may be drastically different. I think the thing that is most important in child rearing is love and family. The quality of family life means much more than anything money can buy.
Now, having said all of that- I do agree that it is NOT fair to the child, you, me, or any tax payer for people to have 5-12 children all on state medical care, welfare, food stamps, etc..
There is a sad group of people who abuse the system and have kids just to get money. It is sad, and it is unfair to the child(ren).
Also, before I get thumbs down from everybody. I am not putting down those who receive Gov't aid. Some people really need it and use it to better themselves and their families. My gripe is with those who abuse the system and end up living better than me- on my dime!

I agree that it's grossly unfair, but many people have no consideration for society, their own children or any sense of responsibility. Some think that god will provide -- presumably in the way of food stamps and other welfare.

It's all the worse because the poor tend to be uneducated and ignorance begets more of same, so these problems continue generation after generation within the same families.

This is why I advocate forced sterilization. Having just one kid while you're accepting public assistance qualifies you for forced sterilization, man or woman. I frankly don't care that they may eventually get their act together and become self-sufficient. If they love kids so much, they can adopt or become foster parents.

Needless to say, this is not possible in a society that honors individual liberties even at the cost of the greater good. Plus it smacks of big brother, which is not popular.

not always , money doesnt by the love that some families can provide. Most families arent rich and many of us on here are living close to pay check to paycheck. It doesnt mean less forunate people shouldnt be able to raise children. It doesnt mean the less fortunate people dont love their children or that their children dont feel loved. Its not always about money, and (I dont condone it) but there is always the states help that alot of people rely on (which there should be very strict rules on but thats another story)

That is very unfair. I know of people back home that would have a baby right out of high school just to get Free federal housing. But when the baby is old enough to go to school the mother would have to get a job but instead of getting a job she would just have another kid. I know alot of lazy people like that.... it is sad.
