I mailed with Certified Mail so, I got the card saying that they received my application. How do I contact them or check and see if my application is in the process?

depending where your mom is living right now... it could take anywhere from 3 years to 15 years. there's nothing you can do but wait for it. they will not expedite a case. it will be processed by the order it was received. from what i've heard, applications that were turned in in 1998 are the ones that are being processed.

since you're sponsoring your mom, it's not their main priorities. priorities are applications of spouses and of minor children are their top priorities.

so just wait for it to happen. it will take years. and don't ask about expediting the case or what to do to have her here faster. there are no ways, unfortunately.

also, you just turned in your applications. while it might have been received by the USCIS, they probably haven't even looked at the applications yet. they need to look at it, approve the application, turn it over to NVC for more processing.... where you do more waiting. the NVC does the actual processing and scrutinizing of each and every documents. that takes a long time.

edit: i did not mention any quota. what i am talking about is their priority. they make it their priority to reunite spouses and children more than reuniting adult children and their parents.

Vanessa is incorrect regarding the visa quota system. Parents of US Citizen is exempt from the visa quota, meaning the immediate family of US Citizen has available visa all the time. These days USCIS is backlogged tremendously. You can make an inquiry about the application through infopass appointment at your local USCIS office, since it has been 6 months. The minimum wait for Infopass is 90 days from the Receipt Notice.

Remember, just because you have submitted an application doesn't mean you will be approved. This is not a "done deal". It wouldn't hurt to contact them and make sure that your paperwork was received, hasn't been lost and is being processed.
