It's not that fruit cake is bad, it's that some recipes for fruit cake simply do not appeal to many people.
These are usually recipes that contain candied citrus peel, which often has a bitter taste.
Over baked fruitcakes and/or fruitcakes that have not been "aged" properly are often too dry.
I do not care for most commercially produced fruit cake but I LOVE the fruit cake I make. But then...I only put in the things I like! {:o)

It is Mystery Food. It defies time. Also the hardest substance known to man. It is however the perfect holiday gift. You can pass a fruit cake around for generations and it will not change in form or chemical make up. The cellophane wrapper will degrade away before the fruit cake does. It is the only food prepared by the same method the Ancient Egyptians used for mummification.
It tastes bad too. Way to gooey sweet and it will pull the teeth out of your head.

People always portrays fruitcakes as horrible foods. They are the cake that is constantly regifted and is hard (and dangerous) as a brick. Nobody ever seems to like them!
Of course, I thought I would dislike them as well. Well, last year, my friend just so happened to have a fruitcake, and trying to get rid of it, he gave some to me. Reluctantly grabbing a piece, I was prepared for the worst, but instead, it was the best! It wasn't hard as a brick as I imagined, nor did it have a horrendous taste. In fact, it was delicious!

fruit and bread??????? thats whats wrong with them. i had one a few days ago and i almost put it back up. well some peoples fruit cakes are gross. but my auntie she makes the best ones!!!!!! its not even fruit and bread. its fruity icing and bread and suger mixed with birthday cake ice cream. and then you put hot fudge on top. its like a taste of heaven. plus its served with home made rice crispies!!!!! its sux that she only makes them on birthdays and holidays. but its soooooo good!!!!!!! and she makes the cookies. its a cube with ice cream and hot fudge inside and a chocolatedippedcherryand chocolate dipped starberry on top its amazing but it really depend on how you make it some people make it gross but some people make it like heaven.

I don't know i had a Claxton Fruit cank years ago and it was good.
