I prefer the Springfield XD over Glocks. I think the XD is an all around better gun. The XD is just as reliable as the Glocks are but the XD has 3 other safeties that Glocks do not have. Both us the USA trigger safety (which I do not think is a true safety), but the XD has the grip safety (like a 1911), a striker status indicator (on back of slide) that you can visually see if the striker is in the ready to fire position, and the load indicator (on top of slide) that will visually tell you if you have a live round in the chamber.
I also like the ergonomics of the XD. It has a natural point that I do not see or feel in Glocks, the grip is a little smaller so my hand fits better (even for the full size Tactical Models). The XD is also a little heavier so less recoil. The sights are better and easier on my eyes.

I like the Springfield. Glocks have more accessories on the market but the XD is more comfy for me. I carry a H&K USP 45 though!!

I have only shot the Glock but both may give you trigger control issues considering the design of the trigger. dmickey1... hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned. I loved the frame, slide, and barrel of the Glock. They are truly low maintenance handguns that take less than half the time it takes to clean my 1911. And they are reasonably accurate with extremely durable, corrosion resistant barrels. But that damn trigger. It takes a lot of range time to acclimate to that style of trigger. I would would guess the same is true for the XD. Dry firing both guns will not give you an accurate preview of trigger control at all. You really need to try to test fire one or the other. I really liked the Glock concept but was not devoted enough to get used to the trigger. It is a shame but that is how things work out sometimes.

I prefer the springfield; however, the glock i fired was a glock 17 9mm, while the springfield was indeed a .45, and i prefer .45s
i think it'd help if you posted the caliber of the glock and what you intend to use the guns for.

Both are good. Springfield has a grip safety, something John Browning himself saw fit to eliminate in his last pistol, the Browning P-35 Hi Power generally considered an improvement over the venerable 1911.
Best.

I am a Glock man, but what it boils down to is, what is most comfortable for you. Some people don't like the Glock trigger mechnism.

Do you have a range locally that you can rent guns at? I rented a Glock in Florida and found that I was concentrating more on the trigger that the target. Decided it was not for me!

I like the glock, very simple....there is a trigger and a magazine release...that's it! Nothing else is required in a serious firearm.
