I know and I would never use the t.v as a babysitter but even when you limit tv time to 30 minutes a day still there are commercials

When I talk about those shows I am giving examples of shows that I don't think children should watch, and Nickelodeon is a channel that children like to watch because there are some cartoons there good for children like the looneytoons, Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go and on Toon channel there is Tom and Jerry... Anyway there are some shows but some commercial may pop up.

OMG am i ever embarressed to watched tv with my kids. Some of the things commercials or other wise that come on are insane.

I mean penis enlardgement things on tv, and i've got a 13 yr old boy. I know he's wondering if he's big enough....

Or my daughter who is 15 and a commercial for weight lose comes on and plays 3x's back to back, she got to be woundering if she thin enought.

We discuss things, we talk about things that are disturbing to us. We make sure they know they are normal the commercials are nuts.

I am 100% with you. I really think they should passs a law that advertisements need to be rated and can only be played during shows that have the same rating. I often have the TV on the news in the kitchen while I am cooking and some of the stuff is way over the top.

We actually bought a DVR and now we tape everything and fast forward through the commercials. I actually have conversations with my three year old about how the commercials are bad and they want us to spend our money and we work hard for our money so we should save it. But some of the sexual content and scary stuff is over the top.

As for all the people who responded that this is just the way the world is now, that just makes me sad. This is our world, we should be able to work to make it what we want.

Write a letter to the parent company of the channel and tell them you are unhappy. If they get enough they may change their marketing strategy. Or to the advertiser themselves. They do not what to hear that you are going to spend your money elsewhere because of the times of their commercials were run. One letter won't make a difference, but a few hundred will.

Good Luck.

I have a five year old, and the only time commercials are a problem is when we're on FX or TNT watching a movie. Otherwise, we're on Nick, Disney, Cartoon Network, or public TV. It's only about an hour a day and I'll watch with him, especially if it's the Scooby Doo's I used to watch as a kid. It's funny, lately the Chipmunk movie commercial is on a lot and he's picked up the "boom-chicka-wow-wow" line from the movie without knowing what it means.

If I had kids I'm honestly not sure what I would do. I agree with your stated idea that there is too much young exposure to older-oriented media but even for the public as a whole it's not good.

I know some TV providers have age or region-oriented advertising but when you see, say, an ad for "Girls Next Door" on Disney (also one of the absolute worst channels for kids according to a multitude of researches) it kind of gets to you that something's not right. If I was watcing, say, SNL or another late-night program where the kids are normally in bed I wouldn't mind it as much but during daytime programming when kids are awake? Either these marketing people are desperate or politicians and marketers can all be thrown in the same leaky boat.

I would say if I had kids I would watch the shows they wanted to watch with them and I would advise them from there. You also have to have a kid-friendly sort of air around you like you have to put things into simple terms for them because their vocabulary is not as advanced. But either way children's programming should be monitored more frequently and overall I'd say I wouldn't be comfortable with my kids watching TV.

I'm pretty strict in what my children watch on tv. As long as their homework and chores are done, they usually can watch at night but we stick to Noggin and Disney. Some of the commercials I don't really like but I've noticed that my kids aren't paying that much attention. They're usually playing games or reading in addition to watching tv. Many nights we watch movies too - my kids aren't allowed to watch many of the cartoons on Nick although the 11 year old can get away with it more than the younger ones. If I see something I don't like I tell them why it's inappropriate. Regular nighttime tv just isn't watched in our house. There's no way I want my kids watching that trash.

i hate commercials as well, the fact is when commercials come on it's my time to run and clean up for the next 2 minutes ha ha ha.

but, then again. stations need commercials to pay for the shows they display. yes. for the ones that are educational. the good shows. unfortunately, we need them to pay for the bad shows for out kids.

the truth of the matter is. yes all stations could do what all educational channels like channel 2 that show sesame street do. but, the public will simply not support these stations with donations directly. they will however buy those things that they display on commercials. and so again that's where the money comes from to support those shows.

so, commercials are a necessary evil.

I agree. When I first found out I was pregnant with my first son, one of the big things my husband and I discussed was not letting him watch "too much" t.v. But what's too much? We always vowed we'd never get a TV for his room either. What we ended up doing though because of the same reasons, commercials for movies coming out, flipping through channels and seeing things we didn't want him to see......we bought a TV/DVD combo and put it in a seperate room of the house.........not his bedroom, the play room we call it, and there's no cable connected to it what-so-ever. Whenever he asks to watch a DVD, they are locked in a cabinet and one of us has to help him pick out a DVD (that's obviously kid friendly) and help him put it in the DVD player and that's all he's allowed to watch. If we are watching tv and he's in the room, we mute it or change the channel when something is on we don't want him hearing. Good luck

We our very careful of what our daughters watch - well one is only 10 months so shes not a problem yet. The other is 9 years. Regardless, no matter how well you censor what your kids watch there is always going to be something that pops up unexpectedly. You just have to always explain to your kids how alot of things they might see on TV are not real life-that the things on TV might look cool and be popular but in reality they dont want to live their lives like that.

1 yes 2. yes 3. yes 4. no 5. yes 6 yes Mental disorders are rather common. And thankfully we live in a time in which therapy and medicine many times can greatly help a person with such a disorder. I would only be concerned if they were violent, but I would feel like that regardless if they had a mental disorder or not. And as far as hereditary disorders, everyone has something (s) in their genes at is not so good.
