I am a really good and fast proofreader. I want to use this ability to make some extra money on the side since I'm going to graduate school and need all the funds I can get. What's the best way to look for gigs?

I suggest you sign up with local temp agencies. You will most likely have to take the skills tests, but that is why employers pay premiums to contract workers thru an agency. You might also try to check open positons at marketing agencies local to you - they usually have an ongoing need for contract proofreaders as they are always working on copy at various levels of production. good luck!
