VHP is so different from Millenium and Windows 98 and even though I found this once, I haven't been able to find it since then. Can someone walk me through, step-by-step, how to go in and defrag under this program please?
I really like VHP but I don't think it is user friendly and that bugs me when someone makes a program more difficult than it needs to be.
Appreciate any help anyone can give me.

I have used XP and like it even less than VHP. I actually do like VHP except for trying to find things like the defrag or changing my colors, which I like to do occasionally.
Most of the time it's just getting used to a new program because they are all different in one way or another, I just don't think it's as easy to find things on the Control Panel as it was in Windows 98 and ME. If it isn't broken, why fix it or actually change it like they did and make it difficult to find things?
Interesting info on the defragging too often jan ~ I had never heard that before so will check into it before I set this one up to do it on a regular basis. Thanks.

Start-all programs-accesories-system tools-defrag.
You can tell defrag to run now or schedule it to happen at a specific time every week.

I tried Vista for about 2 days and went back to Windows XP, Service Pack 2 because it would not let me onto my favorite websites or any of my games because of the firewall it erected automatically. Not to mention, to buy it permanently would have cost me $200.
In XP, to defragment your hard drive (steps may be similar with Vista)--usually C--do the following:
1. Click in order: Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->Disk Defragmenter.
2. Once that window opens, click button "Analyze"
3. Across the top, in columns, it has VOLUME with (C:) below it; SESSION STATUS (will say "Analyzing"); FILE SYSTEM (mine is NTFS); CAPACITY (in number of gigabytes);& FREE SPACE (in both
gigabytes and percentage).
4. After analysis is done, a smaller window will open telling you whether or not defragging is needed. You can view the report (and print it out if needed). If it says it is NOT necessary, click "Close", and then the "x" box at the top of the window to close out the bigger window.
5. If it IS needed, click on button "Defragment." When it is finished, you will see if you have gained any free space or not.
While virus scans should be a weekly "appointment"--so to speak--defragmenting is not. My nephew says it should be done no more than maybe every month or two, and then to analyze it first. Doing it too often can ruin a hard drive.

Vista's defrag is automatic so it is good in theory; it means that you dont have to waste time defragging the drives manually or on a schedule the old-fashioned way. Vista does it automatically in the background. Theoretically that it is :P because in reality it does not give you any control over the process.
There are good third party defragmenters that utilize the automatic defragmentation principle and do an excellent job compared to Vista's defrag.

Just go to programs--system tools--accessories--disc defragmenter and follow the steps. I have mine set to defragment once a week automatically. Incidentally I do not find Vista very user-friendly either.

its user friendly to me.
anyway, you go to start, computer, you right-click on the drive you want to defragment (usually C), you click properties, you click tools, you click defragment, you click the UAC box allowing permission, and you are done.
Anyway, Vista defragments itself in the background, so chances are, it has already been defragged last week.

all programs
accessories
systems tools
defragment.

You can also get there from the control panel.
Vista doesn't show you the percent of defrag. You just have to weight.

Im sure that you may like or love Vista but they are finding many problems with it now. Many they have fixed and others they have not. My advie is that you switch to Windows XP until they find and fix ALL of the problems...wish i could help more.

i personally love my vista
go to the start button and click "help"
search for defrag
all links you need will pop up
alternately, go to (still in start button) programs, then accessories, then system tools. you'll see the defragmenter under this folder.
good luck!
