Sorry man, but Bob didn't make Psalm 137 popular through song... that was The Melodians that you are thinking of. And no, Bob did not give up marijuana for God. God created marijuana, and Marley, like all Rastafari, believed that marijuana put you closer to God. Marijuana was never smoked recreationally by Bob - it was medicine, fruit, and enlightenment, an 'herb' by all intents and purposes. Marley was always a Christian, but refuted all "isms" as we are all one blood, not seperated by class, race, religion, or creed.

Bob Marley never stopped believing in God or ganja.
Paraphrased from the Old Testament, Psalm 137
By the rivers of Babylon,
Where he sat down,
And there he went
For he remembered Zion.
For the wicked carry us away.
Captivity requireth from us a song.
How can we sing King Alpha's song
In a strange land?
So let the words of our mouth
And the meditations of our hearts
Be acceptable in thy sight over I.
Bob Marley didn't write this, but he made it famous.

Bob Marley never stopped smoking Ganja as long as he was able. To him it was a method of prayer. Rastafarianism is basically a divergent branch of Christianity.

Yes, he became an Orthodox Christian. Nobody seems to know about his love-affair with ganja.
