I don't believe in global warming. Here's what I believe.

I think the earth is way too complicated for scientists to attempt to speculate why the phenomena called global warming is taking place.

Think about these two points...

1)The earth had what was called an "Ice Age". Glaciers melted all over the place. The oceans rose, the dinosaurs were killed, and people had to shift around some.

2) The earth also experienced the continental plates shifting and separating the then existing land into what are known as our existing continents today.

If either the Ice Age or the Shifting of the Plates were occurring today, what do you suppose the scientists and politicians would be doing right now? You got it... the same thing they are doing about global warming. They would be speculating their rears off trying to figure out why it's happening and how to stop it. Politically, the left would be blaming the right and the right would be blaming the left! Stop the Ice Age and the Continental Plates from shifting?!!! That's exactly what everyone in power would be trying to do.

The earth is much bigger than you or I or scientists or politicians or big bad corporations combined. It is a living creation and has it's own course... we are just along for the ride. Should we take care of her... sure! But try to change the course of what Mother Earth is going to do on her own?... No!

I bet Mother Earth is laughing her butt off at us humans trying to fix what is only a natural progression in the earth's destiny.

Global warming?!... What a crock! Thank you Al Gore!

You are asking the wrong question. We believe in Global warming as the science has shown about a 1 degree in crease in the last 100 years. What we disagree with are the causes of global warming. Most "skeptics" believe this is a natural cycle for earth. The AGW fanatics believe humans are the cause.

The reason I do not believe in AGW (man made global warming) is that the science does not back up the claims. The earth has gone through many cycles in the past. It has been covered by vast sheets of ice (about 12,000 years ago). It has also been warmer. Raleigh, NC, the area I live in, was once a coastal area because the oceans were higher many years ago. The AGW fanatics will say the science is solved, and yet they will also admit that the only real evidence they have are models, which they will admit are not able to really predict anything. Here is a long but informative article, written by a lay person, which has some very informative information in it.
http://www.coyoteblog.com/Skeptics_Guide_to_Anthropogenic_Global_Warming_v1.0.pdf

Besides the science, I am always leary of anyone who is afraid to debate the issue in public. When have you ever seen a debate on any mainstream media outlet? The AGW fanatics will only throw out useless platitudes about "consensus", then starts the name calling. When they make a mistake, they do not admit to it, they cover it up. They hide their data and formulas so that other scientist can not review the work.

My personal belief is that the AGW fanatics are anti capitalist/anti USA. They will, and are, demanding that we pay money to other countries to pay for our "excesses". They harp on about the entire earth dying, while they jet around the world in personal aircrafts. They live in mansions yet tell us we should live in small houses. I have seen this behaviour before and it points toward a political machine bent on trying to create a "fair" world (aka: redistribute the wealth).

Next time you have a chance, go to a "global warming rally" and look at the people in attendance. they will tell you how evil capitalism and corporations are. They may even try to sign you up for the communist party.

The issue is not actually global warming. The issue is whether or not the warming currently occurring is:

Outside of normal fluctuation range

Being caused by man's activity

Can be "fixed by man"

So far a lot of claims have been made by those who support the proposition (not even a theory) that the temperature is rising beyond normal range, is being caused by CO2 "green house effect" and is reversible.

None of the evidence presented proves any of this to be true. In fact, closer examination reveals that the data is being deliberately skewed to support a forgone conclusion. Most of the dire predictions associated with it are the result of computer modeling.

If one understands what a computer model does, one realizes that the results are based on many factors and variables. Depending on the accuracy of the input data and the inclusion of all possible variables you can get projections of possible outcomes.

The operative word is "projection". There is a major difference between a projection and a prediction. Yet these projections are not only hand picked out of all the possible projections but much of the data used is incomplete or inaccurate.

What must also cause the average person who knows how to think for him/herself, is the fact that when a prediction is made based on these projections and is proven even close to accurate it is trumpeted as proof. Yet when predictions based on these projections miss the mark completely they are summarily ignored or worse the results are deliberately modified to appear to support the prediction.

I present a case in point. This past hurricane season the number of predicted hurricanes and named storms was way off. The season was actually one of the quietest in a long time. Yet it has been shown by experts that not only were the storms fewer than predicted but at least six of the named storms did not really reach the parameters required to become named storms but were named anyway. Why?

Finally, not to belabor the point but what should make any American lover of freedom instantly suspicious is the attempt by the supporters of Global Warming as a man made problem to silence or discredit anyone who disagrees with them. If you have the truth on your side open and honest debate, peer review and scrutiny can only strengthen your position.

Merry Christmas!

SO, if you really believe Al Gore, does this mean you are going to park teh car and truck and ride your bicycle to work?
Part of the energy that causes global warming, fuels this computer, internet, Ipod, and just about everything else. Do us all a favor and remove yourself from active society and go live in a cave, so that we can use whatever part of the energy that you are/were using for more important stuff....

While it is apparently true that the northern ice cap is smaller than the last many decades, the southern ice cap is larger than in the past. Right now we are having our record setting winter weather all across the u.s. Since its soooo warm my heating costs have skyrocketed. And im freezing my *** off. Any of you brainiacs out there figure this one out yet. I dont call this global warming.
On the other hand, if Al Gore directed his actions of global warming in a slightly different way he may gain support. If he instead suggested that global poisoning was occuring he would find more people in support of that.

The proof is in the pudding, or to be more exact the ice core sample that was taken in the year 2000 , i believe near Iceland. The study of this ice core showed, beyond doubt, that the earth was once quite a few degrees warmer than it is now and that we are actually heading into a period of cooling.
Before some of you make your statements, please try to base them in facts, not the opinion of your local politician.
Like politicians know anything about weather.

I have to agree with herman that it has become a political issue. I would suggest a very good book by Michael Crichton called "State of Fear". I consider Michael Crichton to be one of the most knowlegeable and most informative people of our time. The book is written as a novel and some of the action is, well, a novel. He gives some astonishing facts about global warming though and gives references for all of the facts. Frankly, as he tells it, it reeks of corruption and self interest. If you are really interested in the subject I would highly recommend that you read "State of Fear".

If 1998 was the warmest year in recent memory. The laws of probability say that we should have had at least a few years as warm or warmer since then and it has not happened.
I teach probability as my job.

Well, the things that Eye Spy say have to be backed up.....the things that are happening now are NOT natural or in a natural course of events......we have put too many chemicals on the lands, stripped too many trees and sources of renewal for the earth, and destroyed the protection that was there in the way of atmosphere. This may not help you with why people don't believe...basically, I think it is too scary to really get a true understanding of what humans now can cause with their super technology and super industrialization.

I'm not sure what to believe now. But we got way above normal temps here. We got a wierd snow last month plus even the older people still remember snows up to the knee, which is something that happens on more. We are lucky to get a snow that covers the ground per year.
