It's because God has ordained marriage as a lifelong union of one man and one woman, to live exclusively for each other and to trust each other completely. Bringing other people into the relationship, especially in the intimate context of sex, destroys that essential element of trust and injures the relationship severely--so severely, in fact, that the Bible specifically mentions adultery as being the only good reason for divorcing one's spouse. It's that serious.

Good question. Merry Christmas to you!

It's a sin to commit adultery because you are only meant to share that act with your husband or wife. Yourself and your friend should read 1 Corinthians 7:1-7.

Here Paul actually tells us that in a perfect world we would not marry or have sex at all. But as each man and woman has urges, it is best to get married before doing this.

I think a more important answer to your question isn't why is it wrong, but what the consequence of committing adultery is. Unlike many sins, when you commit a sexual sin (adultery included) you are actually sinning against your own body. . . the temple that your spirit and the holy spirit reside in.

Jesus also pointed out that if a divorce was obtained by either husband or wife, except on the ground of fornication (Gr., por·nei′a), the remarriage of either one would constitute adultery. Even a single man who took such a divorced woman as his wife would be guilty of adultery.—Mt 5:32; 19:9; Mr 10:11, 12; Lu 16:18; Ro 7:2, 3.

Adultery is “actually sin against God.” (Ge 39:9) Jehovah will judge those guilty of adultery, and none who persist in such a course “will inherit God’s kingdom.” (Mal 3:5; 1Co 6:9, 10; Heb 13:4) How true the proverb: “Anyone committing adultery with a woman is in want of heart; he that does it is bringing his own soul to ruin.”—Pr 6:32-35.

Because when you enter into the Sacrament of Marriage and take the vows of marriage you promise to be faithful and true to your spouse. Commiting adultery is, either mentally(thinking about someone other then your spouse is also adultery) or physically, or having sex outside the Sacrament of Marriage, you have sinned and broken a Commandment.

Adultery is having a sexual intercourse with a woman who is not your legal wife, so it is prohibited by God and it is a sin to commit it.
.
Exo 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery
. Lev 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
Deu 5:18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
Pro 6:32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
Jer 3:9 And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
Jer 5:7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots houses.

If committing adultery is a cardinal sin then, judging by the Christian divorce rate of up to 38% in some polls and, accepting the fact that these Christians re-marry there are one heck of a lot of Christian adulterers if they were to follow their Bible.

Mt 5:28
But I say to you, That whoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Mt 5:32
But I say to you, That whoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of lewdness, causeth her to commit adultery: and whoever shall marry her that is divorced, committeth adultery.

Le 20:10
And the man that committeth adultery with [another] man's wife, [even he] that committeth adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

Enough I guess.

Religious laws are generally ways to tell an ignorant person what's best for them.. Look at the guy who figured out eating undercooked pork can get you sick from microscopic parasites, now try to explain that to a bunch of sheep herders.. easier to say "GOD SAYS dont eat pork. Same with stealing and other things that keep society moving. Adultery generates children that arnt provided for and become a drain on the rest of society. Now with the same logic try to explain to a bunch of horney primitive uneducated herders and hunters not to commit adultery when most of them dont even know it leads to kids. Heck with all the pregnant unwed teens on this websight peopl still dont know sex leads to kids. Again much simplier to just say God Says dont do it or you'll burn in hell.

It is a sin to commit adultery for the same reason it is a sin to eat of beasts with cloven hooves. It just is and don't ask too many questions because you know what happened to Eve.
As for your friend asking too many questions, you better be careful because she might want to commit adultery with you and that is probably childery which is even worse.

Because sexual relations are to be amongst married couples. Not a married man and a single woman and so forth. If you commit adultery, it is a gross sin. If you are truly repentant. You will pray to Jehovah God to forgive you.

Because God says so. Look at what happens when people commit adultery, people get hurt. People get fatal diseases. The list goes on.

God says to let your spouse only intoxicate you. The marriage bed shall not be defiled. When we marry we become one.

Read the Holy Bible the answers are there.
