So, I shave but have really stubborn hair pretty much everywhere and get ingrown hairs everywhere, esp. with shaving my pubic hair. I also can never get a smooth shave with my pubic hair no matter whether I shave with or against the grain and I have used tons or different shaving creams, soaps, gels, conditioners, and expensive, high quality razors.
Any suggestions? I want that baby smooth, hair free type hair removal and want to not deal with ingrown hairs any more.
Do you gals (or guys) have problems with this stuff? I've heard they make lotions/creams that prevent ingrown hairs but I don't know if they actually work and that still doesn't help me with finding a smoother shave. I've been told that waxing makes ingrown hairs an even bigger problem and that creams don't work well on really stubborn hair.....

I think you should try waxing before you rule it out. Creams and lotions are generally useless and laser hair removal is really expensive.

I wax Brazilian style and I don't have any problems - I highly recommend it, but make sure you use a really gentle wax. Consult someone at a beauty store - they'll be able to help you pick something. Also, doing it with a wax pot as opposed to a microwave or pot of boiling water makes life much easier!
A hair removal cream is another option but I think could be tedious dealing with doing that as often as you would if you were shaving... but yeah, you probably have a better chance with that.
Just a tip for prevention....
EXFOLIATE the shaved areas with a good exfoliating cream and a loofah while you're in the shower. Hope this helps!

I don't exactly shave my bikini line but I deal with the ingrown hair problem on my neck. It's a pain but if you go over the area with a DRY washcloth in the morning and at night, it will wipe away dead skin cells. That is what usually prevents the hairs from growing back in correctly. Make sure the cloth is dry, it needs to be somewhat abrasive.

I gather you're dead set on getting rid of your body hair. Given what a problem it is for you, why don't you invest in something more permanent, like electrolysis or laser. It isn't cheap and probably requires several sessions, but you're talking about many hours spent on managing this situation for the rest of your life.
Nair and hair removal creams like it work very well. Just apply, leave on a few minutes, wipe off, wash and voila, no hair. It grows back as fast as shaving but you don't get razor burn and perhaps ingrowing would be minimized. Can't say for sure.

I get the ingrown hairs every once in a while, but i have heard of some stuff that leaves it smooth with no ingrown hairs. I actually don't recall the name of it but it was at the local adult store in the lotions, lubes, etc. section. Check that out.

I would probably not use this. Because your vagina is warm and moist it is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. It also has a certain acidity level to help kill bacterial. Should this removal cream come in contact with you vagina it could alter the acidity level and cause infection. There is nothing wrong with asking a pharmacist about this. You can even call a local WalMart pharmacy and ask a female pharmacist's advice. They should be more than happy to help you. Shaving that area is perfectly safe as long as you are careful with soap or shaving cream in that area and not nick yourself too badly. Just be careful ok?

When I used to shave my pubic area on a regular basis I would apply baby oil or baby lotion to the area to keep it moist.
Whenever I get ingrown hairs I have to have my doctor remove them for me because when I try to do it myself it causes a great deal of pain.

Veet for 6 minutes... fabulous! And, I've tried everything; I like a smooth bikini line because I swim a lot. Veet doesn't burn, has different scents, smooth removal, stopped ingrown hairs and lasts longer than shaving.

Well, I've always used baby powder after I shave, and I've never had ingrown hairs again.
