When they become self-centered. Selfishness leads to covetuousness, always wanting more.

Covetuosness is idolatory. 'Self' becomes the center of one's life, pleasing yourself, indulging in pleasures of the flesh, materialism, adictions, inconsiderate of the needs of others, & only caring about yourself. Selfish living leads to 'the worship of self, ' 'cos you only care about "I, ME, & MYSELF"! Much of the world is like this. Christians, however, are called to be different, to "love God and to love our neighbour as ourselves." You will note that this does away with selfishness.

"Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection (homosexuality), evil concupiscence, and COVETOUSNESS, WHICH IS IDOLATORY." (Colossians 3:5 KJV)

The pal has matured in this regard slightly over the previous couple of years. There would be any form of motives. regrettably it in many cases takes a drastic existence changing journey to alter the suggestions-set. when we ask for more than our needs -
when we "expect" God to answer our prayers and they become sloppy -
when we 'shopping list' pray -
if "give us this day our daily bread" was the advice of the Master - why do we add to it?
when we claim "things" and do not seek wisdom -
clue - (what was the morning prayer of the Jews in the Old Testament)?

When the sole reason you pray is to try to get God to give you stuff.
Needs are one thing as long as your request is given with a humble spirit and an attitude of thanks. But when you treat God like a sugar daddy, well that is a problem.

I don't think it does. If you are quick to remember what the Lord brought you out of and give him the glory for that, no matter what you gain, he will honor that.

It is just like with our children. When they are 'good' we want to do things for them, and not just for a special occasion, we just WANT to bless them because of who they are.
