Beyond about the age of twelve, incompatibility between the two eyes (which had not been present before that point) shows as eyestrain or double vision, not by the brain ignoring one eye so that it has fewer neural connections.

In some such cases "suppression" is possible, where one eye or the other is used, but both have equal or near-equal vision. The less-favoured eye in such circumstances does not degenerate just because it is not being much used.
