I would suggest getting glasses first, you can always get contacts later on, if you want. Even if you were going to wear contacts all the time, you would still want to have a pair of glasses for "emergency use" in case you rip or lose a contact, get pink eye, scratch your eye etc. The only exception to this is if your perscription is so "wimpy" you hardly need it (you could drive and function without them). I know people who had really bad vision and only had contacts and for one reason or another couldn't wear them for a few days; it was a crisis; they couldn't drive to get to work etc etc!

Contacts aren't dangerous if you take care of them and follow the directions, unfortunately, many people don't.

Today just about everyone can wear contact lenses, and there are more healthful and convenient contact lens options than ever before. Contact lenses are used to correct the same conditions that eyeglasses correct. For all details, information and remedies about contacts check out http://use-contactlens.blogspot.com/

As long as you handle contacts with clean hands and keep your saline solution, etc. sterile, contacts are very safe. They have been around a loooooong time.

yeah, they're safe.
as long as you take good care of them anyways!
like keeping hands clean while handling lenses, or not leaving them in for too long...
but other than that, they are safe.
more comfortable too =]
i like them better than glasses
