Why are certain people racist fanatics?

I'm not a psychologist, but maybe it has to do with people's schemata (plural for schema). In order to help in developing automatic thought, people tend to create psychological structures to place people and other aspects of the world into. When people are exposed to biased information on other groups of people, stereotypes, and possibly other negative views in terms of people, it can affect the schemata of the individual.

Faith.

Sounds crazy, but faith is entirely responsible.

Belief that one race is superior than another is not supported by any evidence or science. People who choose to be racists do it without evidence, because it is a gut feeling.

Many of them are indoctrinated to believe racist things from parents and culture, they just 'know' that they are right because it 'feels' right to them.

Religious belief uses exactly the same tools to support belief in a deity or spiritual system. That is why racism and religion tend to be mixed up at times.

You can see this in CL Richardsons answer... he claims that Muslims are racist because Satan causes it, and then bashes their belief in God. He does this without any evidence, just a gut feeling that he most likely received from his parents or culture. His racism is now mixed in with his religion, because both are dependent on faith, not evidence or science.

This is why faith based belief without tangible, measurable evidence is soo dangerous.

M,
Many people who are racist have been raised in households of people who are dirt poor and have several generations that have been racist. They raise their children as they were raised and the problem continues for many generations until one of the family members decides to leave the "FOLD" and learn about other people who are not of that particular race/religion. I am so glad that I did not grow up in such a family. My brothers and sisters were never that way because we were raised to have friends and to respect people of all ages, races, religions, and from all walks of life. Hqave a wonderful Holiday with your friends and family.
Thank You,
Eds

sometimes they are raised that way, sometimes they might look down on an entire race that stemmed from a single incident in their life that happened with someone of that same race, some religions teach racism, some think their race is higher and better than any other, some are just insecure and have nothing better to do......I hope someone racist can give you better answers...but this is my best at trying to understand why people are.

Who knows...sterotypes, parents who "planted the seed" when they were young.

And to clarify another answer...it's unfair and rude to say that racists mainly only come from a certain wealth class when racism comes to anyone with any amount of money.
