This is a true statement. You must pay for everything from water, to food, even free stuff (you have to pay for the gas to get there or buy a bike), so nothing is ever free.

Everything comes at a price. Even free samples took effort to produce, transport, etc. Even if you don't pay for it monetarily or personally, everything cost something to someone/something else.

And as for salvation, I am an atheist and do not believe in an afterlife. Perhaps death is the only truly free thing?

It is funny that you ask this because my 9 & 10 y.o. argue about this often!
I have told them EVERYTHING costs something. It might not be money, but it might cost time which is VERY precious and you can't get it back once it is gone. You can even recoop money.
I have also told them sometimes things cost gas, or they cost a life, or they cost someone to lose their respect etc....
YES, everything costs something. Nothing in life is free.

In a way, yes. You make countless choices in your life. The choices aren't necessarily big. It can be something trivial as choosing to eat cheeseburger instead of hamburger. Still, by choosing cheeseburger you won't get to eat hamburger. Maybe you had to spend lots of time in that "trivial" dillema. You paid all your time thinking, the money for the hamburger, and the "pain" of not having to eat hamburger for that meal.

Yes, you pay for everything.

I can go swimming in the ocean for free. I can watch the beautiful sun sets for free. I can view beautiful water falls for free.
It cost nothing to praise and worship my God.
