Me and my girlfriend have been talking about the big M word. Engagement Rings always come up, she swears to god it isnt about the money, but she wants a ring that is at least 1ct. and 1500 dollars minimum. It would take me forever to save up that kind of money and she knows this. What do you all think of that? Does she really think about the monetary value, instead of the emotional value?

Of course it's about the money. If you can't afford this, she shouldn't even suggest it.It's all about Love, not material "Things"

Hi,

It sounds like your girlfriend has been dreaming about a specific ring for a long time - probably a diamond solitaire, which is the classic engagement ring.

Buying a fabulous diamond isn't only about the size. You can get lots of dazzle with a slightly smaller diamond in a pave setting. Or what about Moissanite, which costs a bit less but has even more brilliance than a diamond? You can also consider different settings. White gold is less expensive than platinum.

Try going window shopping with her, and see if something else catches her eye. It may be that she never even considered any options.

I hope this helps! You can find more information on choosing an engagement ring at different prices, at http://engagementringtoday.com, a website that provides free helpful advise about engagement rings.

Good luck,

Lynn

She cares about the "show" value. If she knows your earnings, and still wants a ring that is way more than you can afford, it says something about her, and it's not good, I'm sorry. Marriage is "for better or worse", not "for 1 ct. or better."
