Energy RC Minis, an S10.3 sub and a receiver that has HDMI upconversion like Sony's STRDG910(even if your TV doesn't have HDMI now your next one will). This would KILL the Bose and go for around $2000. Add a Blu-Player from Samsung ($299 on sale) and some good cables and you will be blown away.
Then again I usually like to know more about where it's going and how it will be used...... No it's good. You'll love it!
This is a vote for a Speaker Package from a good speaker manufacturer and a good receiver.
They are almost never the same company. So not a HTiB (Home Theater in a Box)
Generally speaking I would agree with Mike about Yamaha and Denon but the Sony represents a great value and has had tremendous customer satisfaction.

I suggest Yamaha Home Theater. Yamaha are sound professionals and they know it all. I bought a system from Radio Shack in NJ for US $ 225, and a Phillips DVD player came free with it.
My system has a RMS rating of 660 Watts, a ten inch sub-woofer, one center speaker and four satellites, apart from a receiver with FM and remote. It has options like Dolby II, 5 ch surround, 2 ch stereo, etc. and pre-set music styles like rock, jazz, etc.

I prefer Yamaha receivers for their quality, versatility and capabilities, the only other brand I would consider is Denon.
As far as speakers, that's an individual preference, best thing to do is go listen and let your own ears decide rather than someone elses opinion.
If your looking for an all-in-one package look at Crutchfields web site. They have on line chat and their reps are very knowledgeable and great to work with. They also support during set up and for the life of the product.

If you like music - take a favorite CD and audition speakers. This will expose differences that movie soundtracks wont.
Generally a nice set of matched speakers (not Bose) and a good subwoofer will do a great job for HT. Polk, Energy and Definitive Technology are all good names to audition.

Avoid Bose at all cost. Go with some of the already suggested systems.

instead of Bose, i would suggest speakers from klipsch and yamaha or harman kardon.
i myself have a klipsch quintet speakers and yamaha amplifier and i love it.
bose might look sleek and small, but then they are not the best.
