Haha.

I'd just break it.

Granted, I'm an atheist, so I'm slightly biased against the situation in the first place.

For instance, as I woke up this morning, I said to myself, "I swear to God, if this thing's out of tune again, I'm throwing it at the wall.." And alas, as I removed my violin from its case, it was indeed out of tune.

I didn't throw it at the wall :]

That's not, however, out of spite for "God." That's just because it's a several-thousand dollar instrument, and has served me well. I wouldn't want to lose it or damage it severely when all I have to do is twist a few pegs.

So obviously, I broke my most recent "swear to God," and I did nothing to "cancel" it, but I've not burst into flames.

I say, as long as it's within your rights and / or does not infringe upon the rights of others, do it anyway.

:]

When you make a promise to God, you are really making a promise to yourself. Would you let yourself down? Be honest about your feelings. Be trustworthy .Have respect for yourself and understand that in the end you must face the problem alone. It is humane to make mistakes. Learn from this and move forward. Life is a learning process.

That is why you should never swear you sincerity. Especially before God. We forget our oaths but God never forgets our promises. Let your yes be yes and your no be no. Do not make promises you can not keep.

Remember those old Bugs Bunny cartoons? For example, he's trying to convince Daffy that it's duck hunting season? They go back and forth saying "No, it's DUCK season!" "RABBIT SEASON" until Bugs slips in "Rabbit Season" to which Daffy, unsurprisingly responds "Duck season!!!! And that's FINAL!"

...Same basic concept, only the end result will be guilt-free masturbation for you rather than avoiding ol' trigger happy Elmer Fudd.

Sounds like you should not be making promises to God.

When you break covenant (i.e., a sworn promise made between you and Almighty God), you automatically cancel your sworn promise, & you open yourself to the earthly and heavenly penalties/consequences for not only breaking covenant but for the unrepented and unconfessed sin.

Ask god for a reply when you tell him you want to do the thing again and ask him if he would allow it. If he never reply, silence means consent.

It's not a good idea to make rash vows. God holds us accountable.
