Migraine headaches are not caused by either bacteria or viruses. Current medical thinking relates "true" migraine headaches to spasms in the (many) blood vessels that cover the surface of the brain. This spasming can be triggered by a number of things, ranging from reactions to certain foods to stress. The key is to find your individual cause and then address that with a medical professional. Many have been helped with the use of blood pressure medications (specifically calcium channel blockers) taken routinely as a preventative measure. Others are helped by avoiding certain foods (red wine, aged cheeses, etc.). Keeping a diary may be a helpful way to discover your particular "trigger".
