Some of my former coworkers and supervisors, who have began working since the creation of this company in 1996, are leaving for other jobs. As an part-time employee of 4 plus years, should I be concerned? Is this considered something normal? Do you think that there is something that I do not know?

Do you feel comfortable asking one of these people why they are leaving the company? Were they let go or are they leaving of their own free will? And how many of these people are leaving - is it just one or two or are there many people going? Is it from one department or across many departments?

I guess the reason why I am asking you all these questions is so you can take a minute to evaluate the situation. Maybe a new supervisor has come into one department and he/she is really bad so everyone in that department only is leaving. Perhaps a former employee started their own company and is taking some former colleages to staff up the new organization.

If you have the guts to do so, go to your supervisor and voice your concerns. Tell him/her that you are worried about the sudden exodus of employees. You might get a straight answer and you might not, but at least you can have piece of mind knowing you asked rather than just speculating (which can tear you up inside).

If you are unsure of the company and it's status then maybe it's time to start looking for new employment. At the very least update your resume, get your interview clothes cleaned and ready to go if you decide to start pursuing another job. Line up some professional references in your head so when asked you can provide names, phone numbers and email addresses for them.

If you enjoy this company and your job the best thing to do is ask someone what is going on. You might be surprised and find out it is nothing as bad as you think. What is the old saying - hope for the best, prepare for the worst? Get yourself ready mentally for a job search in case the answers you hear are not what you want to hear.

Good luck to you.

instead of looking at the people leaving, look how the company is performing. people leave for many different reasons. it might not be because of the company, it might be they got a better offer, or their aim in life was different from what they are doing, or it might have got tedious for them doing the same work.

if the company is doing good, then there might be chances that the people who leave the job opens up better positions for you inside the company, as you have been working for more than 4 years.

the first indicator of how the company does is to check the stocks if it is a public traded company. If not, then see how the sales and profit of the company is.

It makes you wonder. Being part time means you have time to look for another job. If you were friendly with a departed one ask them what is up.
