at a random time of your choice? Would that be better than stressing out over Christmas, Hannukah etc. gifts and birthday presents?

I like giving gifts in general, Sometimes ill see something in the store and be like " oh , so and so would love this!" and i buy and give it to them. Im talking about close friends tho, and I think that is a sign of a great and important frienship, and that you truley care about the other person.
I normally dont stress over Christmas either, I mean , sometimes i wonder if my gift isnt good enough, but like I said, I generally like giving gifts.

Then what would give everyone a special day or holiday? What is the purpose of a gift if it doesn't relate to something special in that person's life? We have our religion and meaning to apply to our holidays as well as that very special day which is our birthday or mother's or father's day, etc. It gives us all something to feel good about.

Yes. Gift giving occasions are so overrated; expectations run high and people are usually disappointed. Take all of the gift giving away, the expectations drop exponentially and any gift on a random day would be a pleasant surprise.

Keeping track of everyone's birthdays can be troublesome especially in a large family or work environment. Having one time each year where we all exchange gifts makes my shopping a lot easier.
But it shouldn't be stressful!! That'll take the fun out of it.
